I was gone. "Catherine… Cathy… Sweetie… where are you? Please, come out! Cathy, I remember now… Please, just come out!" He screamed at the empty space, but no one answered. He fumbled with his phone, calling me over and over. Still, no response. It was then he realized, in a gut-wrenching moment of despair, that aside from my love for sculpture, he knew nothing about me. His knowledge of his own wife was painfully barren. The phone rang again. This time, it was Hannah. "Theo… where are you? It hurts so much… Please come back… Our baby…"

The room felt impossibly still. "I never lost it in the first place."

I said calmly, "she's standing here alone, being watched by everyone. How pitiful. Aren't you going to come up and keep her company?" His body jolted, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. He looked at Jess for help, then instinctively took a step back, trying to distance himself from the center of the storm. Pathetic. I withdrew my gaze and spoke into the microphone, delivering the final verdict. "From this moment on, Jess and I are officially over. Ten years—ends here." I tossed the microphone onto the stage. It rolled a few times, letting out a harsh screech—like a final lament. Then I turned and walked away.

Even the moonlight orchid she had tended for three years on the windowsill had withered into dry straw. He stood frozen. She had left cleanly, like a meticulously planned retreat. Then his gaze fell on the stone table where a letter lay. Only a few words were written on it. "We will have no more ties from now on." A roar filled his ears. He collapsed to the ground, gripping the letter tightly. His claws pierced into his own palm. Blood streamed down, yet he felt no pain. No more ties? Why? They were supposed to form their Mate Bond today before the entire pack. Had she not longed for this day?

I said, "I'm never lost." We didn't wait for the golden ships to reach us. We didn't wait for the Sun King’s judgment. Together, we stepped off the edge of the glass path and plummeted into the purple abyss.

He fell silent for a moment before he finally said, “I’ll send someone to pick you up.” I choked back my tears and agreed. At dawn, just before boarding the plane, I took one last look at the photo of Matteo and me on my phone and deleted it. Matteo Cross, we would never see each other again.

Before getting inside, I looked back at the apartment one last time. My old life felt so far away already. Slowly, I entered the car beside Dominic. The door closed softly behind us. And as the cars finally started moving toward the wedding venue… I realized there was no turning back anymore.
