Instead, I folded my hands in my lap and stared out the window, trying to stay calm even as anxiety twisted in my stomach.
An hour later, the familiar road to Blackthorn camping grounds disappeared behind us. Tall, ancient trees closed in — darker, thicker, older than they should be. My heart jolted.
“Um… guys? This is Winchester Forest,” I said, voice rising with panic. “We’re not supposed to be here. My mom warned me specifically. People disappear—”
Marcus laughed loudly from the driver’s seat.
