Third Person's POV The Western Tribes' werewolves were overwhelming, but Velda fought fiercely. Her arms underwent wolf-shift, wolf hair-covered claws tore through leather wrist guards and elongated. Ten glinting nails left frosty trails in the air. Her vertical pupils shrank to arctic-crevice slits. A horizontal slash of her left claw shattered three warriors' shields. Glancing around, she saw more Western Tribes' wolves surging like a tide. These wolves hadn't joined the earlier battle but had lain in wait for her.

A pack of gray wolves surrounded her and bared their fangs, then two wolves pounced on her, sticking their fangs into her front legs, which made her howl in pain and move away from Aleister's body to straighten her bottom. Kanai furrowed his eyebrows in fear, looking at the gathering of wolves trying hard to penetrate the dome and those surrounding the Queen. Malicious wolves multiplied over the white wolf's body, continuing to shove their fangs into his body and wound him with their claws. I knew something was wrong the moment I caught Everly’s scent intertwined with the smell of something unnatural. Right now, she wasn't just Everly. She has turned into a beast of her own. She stood in the clearing, her form no longer just a werewolf but something ancient, and primordial. The shadows circled around her like a snake. Her fur stood on ends, and her claws extended beyond one feet. They gleamed like obsidian, ready to unleash terror. Her golden eyes burned with an eerie glow as she circled the massive beast before her. This was Claws we're talking about here, right?

She growled angrily at him and when he looked at her and she saw the huge lines of her claws on his beautiful face, she felt bad immediately and even heard her wolf whimper in pain for him. Nightwalkers are good at healing speedily but even a wound from wolf claws would take days to heal completely. They had been taught so in school and she had seen an experiment as well when they had captured one and experimented on him. Their claws are deadly to them just as nightwalkers fangs are deadly to them. A bite from them always takes days to heal and if too deep, a weak wolf would die from the pain before it fully heals.

I was still sporting werewolf claws on my fingers, so I quickly tucked them behind me and managed to get to my feet. “Oh my goodness! Werewolf claws!!”

"Climb onto my back, now!" the blood-eyed werewolf's powerful voice said to me. I hurriedly did. My body lay against his furry back. "Hold on tight!" he instructed me. I did.

Her pendant—two wolfsbane branches circling opposed helms—snapped and skittered across the gravel, spinning to a stop in a coppery smear. They dragged. She changed. The growl rose first—wet, subterranean—before the body followed. Bones unzipped and reset; sinew braided and surged; fur erupted through skin. In a breath, where Sara had been, a towering brown werewolf stood, eyes molten gold. Her left arm tore free. The blond didn’t even scream as her claws opened him face to gut, a red curtain dropping in one stroke. “The—fuck—RUN!” the big one choked. Three bolted, boots collapsing into slapstick panic. She didn’t chase.

As the moon rose over the forest, a lone wolf howled in the distance. It was a call to arms, a summons to the pack. In response, a chorus of howls echoed through the night. The pack gathered in a clearing, their eyes glowing in the moonlight. At their head stood the Alpha, a massive werewolf with fur as black as night and eyes that burned like embers. He was the strongest and most fearsome of them all, feared by humans and werewolves alike.

But now, forcing myself to study it carefully, I saw something I'd missed before. The wounds were wrong. Ghost Wolves had retractable claws, yes. But they were curved. Designed for gripping and tearing. The wounds on my parents' bodies were straight. Clean. Almost surgical in their precision. More like blade wounds than claw marks. "Look at this," I said, handing Thomas the photo and pointing to the throat wounds. "Do those look like claw marks to you?" Thomas studied the image, his expression growing troubled. "They could be. But you're right, they're unusually clean. Most werewolf kills are... messier. More savage."
