Werewolves only change at the full moon. Only with the ceremony. But this one changes in my sitting room. There aren’t any real weapons around me; I grab a fork from the breakfast table. The werewolf’s jaws snap at my face as I dodge backward. He manages to grab me, opens his mouth to roar, and I jam the fork into his mouth, into his soft palate. And then he bites down and my arm comes away.

“Don’t pretend to care about me. You make me sick.” She slammed the door behind her. The sound echoed in the silence. I stood there for a long time, staring at the scattered cookies on the floor, wondering how everything had gone so wrong. That night, I couldn’t sleep. The wolf who once prided himself on pristine presentation now seemed entirely neglectful of pack appearances. "Luna," he called, stepping from the shadows between territorial markers. Baking cookies with Scarlett definitely helped me to come back to my reality. With as much as Kade and Alec eat, I need all the help I can get.” She snorted, “Don’t even get me started on their father.”

After turning off the light, I lay down with my back to the werewolf burrito. I clutched my communication crystal, anxiously tapping the seller's icon. This was a matter of life and death.
