How could Wes, someone who had been shot because of her, stand there and act like nothing had happened? Cornering Wes had been impulsive, but I was not in the mood to think twice. Wes did not even flinch when I shoved him against a tree next to the road. “You’re getting real comfortable at her place, aren’t you?” I felt my wolf fighting to take over. My voice was low. “You forget what she did to us? To them?” Wes sighed like I was exhausting him. “I didn’t forget, Jake. I was there. But maybe you’ve forgotten everything since. Because if you had the full picture, you wouldn’t be standing here acting like this.”

“How long have they been there?” Whatever Alpha Cameron said made her sit straighter. “What do you mean he doesn’t look well?” The room went quiet. Luna Lisa listened without interrupting, her face losing its warmth with every passing second. “No. Don’t push him too hard.” Alpha Cameron’s voice was faint through the phone, but I caught enough to understand that Wesley was struggling. His eyes had darkened. His wolf was becoming restless. They knew the signs better than anyone. “I know. We can’t force him.”

“But again, I figure your Beta would not be too happy to accompany you here after your fallout.” “I am just being her chauffeur.” Ryker shrugged, ignoring Eros’s last remarks. Eros turned to face me and his eyes turned kind. The corner of his lips tugged into a smile. “Miss me?” I rolled my eyes, then raced towards him. “So, you are a werewolf, huh?” I asked him, throwing my arms around him. Despite the dirt and sweat mixed with his sandalwood scent, he smelled and felt like home. After what had happened today, this was all I needed.

Above them, the sky lit up as dancing swirls of color came moving towards them, spreading across the sky like a luminous stain. Vescovi gritted his teeth as the accumulating light sent a soft glow down on the ground. Without giving his position away to the werewolf right on his left, he shifted deeper into the shadows. Vescovi could not keep watch on the camp below, nor could he communicate with the others. He looked over at Xavier to his right, who gave him an almost imperceptible nod. The man set his jaw, determined without a hint of fear. His gun was ready, and so was he. The explosion shook the ground moments later.

I couldn't tear my eyes away as Kai prowled closer, his boots thudding softly against the stone. The air thickened with their combined scents, Thorne's earthy dominance mingling with Kai's sharper, wild edge like storm winds rolling through the pines. My body betrayed me, nipples hardening under their stares, a slick warmth gathering between my legs. I was an omega, wired to submit, to crave the claiming that would mark me for the pack.
