A lot of people talk about the tags, which are undeniably useful, but I've found that the search filters are what keep me coming back. The ability to cross-filter by fandom, relationship, characters, and then something like word count or completion status is a game-changer. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted a specific ship but only had time for a one-shot, or wanted to avoid WIPs altogether. The 'Exclude' function is a lifesaver, too; if I'm not in the mood for major character death or a particular trope, I can just banish it from my results immediately.
It’s the control that does it. On other sites, you're often at the mercy of a simple search bar or a popularity algorithm. Over here, I feel like I'm actually curating my own experience. The flexibility means I've stumbled on incredible, niche stories I never would have found otherwise, just by playing with different combinations of filters. Sometimes I'll filter for a rare pair and sort by kudos just to see what's survived in the quiet corners of the archive.
That said, the interface can feel a bit clunky until you get used to it, but once you do, there's really no substitute. I spend more time there than I'd care to admit.
