The book informed us that should a werewolf who is mated to a witch be severely hurt they can give half of their life to the wolf which makes them weaker but can ensure that their mate lives until nature takes its course and claims the witch for their own. Witches can be mated to werewolves on the condition that the werewolf gives himself to nature completely. “But aren't werewolves part of nature already?” I ask, looking up at Kye.

It was a world of secrets, of power, and, sometimes, of terrible sacrifices. But now, Beverly's supernatural powers were gone, replaced by the feral instincts and savage strength of a werewolf. She had long vowed to herself that her quest for love, her relationship with Elton, would never jeopardize her mission to save the innocent humans from the ravages of the supernatural. And yet, it appeared that her resolve had been shattered, her very essence twisted by an act of passion.

Did you think I wouldn't find out at some point? "I know I did, but I wanted to spend as much time as possible with you before that happened." Amara, from the first time you faced me in that hallway, I knew you were my mate. -Mate? “Every werewolf has a mate. A love destined for him. Soulmates. When they meet there is no room for anyone else in their lives. Is love. It seemed a little cheesy to me to hear Elder talk about love, he didn't even show it off.

"For a witch." "For my mate," Kael said. "The species is irrelevant to the law." "The species," Maren said, and now the pleasantness in her voice had thinned to something underneath it, something cold and very old, "is the entire point of the law, Kael. Ordinance Seventeen exists because wolf witches are a destabilizing force. They can unravel the bonds that hold packs together. They can unmake what the moon built." Her eyes moved to me. The old lady started to talk, "Once upon a time there were a couple. A werewolf and a witch. They love each other a lot. The werewolf and Witch culture didn't accept that. So they ran far away from their civilization. Then they started to live with humans. They never revealed themselves to humans. They married each other. Then they started to live happily. She had apparently been banished because she had fallen in love with a witch and began to practise his customs. It was a scandalous situation indeed. I mean werewolves were forbidden from mixing with the witches. A wolf could get ostracized just for being seen talking or communicating with a witch. How had she managed to constantly meet with and fall in love with a witch? And what was this about practicing his customs? Werewolves had different powers from that of witches. I mean perhaps a wolf could try to cast a spell or do some rituals performed by witches. But it most likely wouldn’t work.

“Funny thing is, it’s actually possible to be both. A witch and a werewolf at the same time.” My head snapped toward her. “Wait. What? How?” “Simple,” she said, shrugging. “Witches fall in love too, and sometimes they fall in love with werewolves. When that happens and they have a child, that child can become both a wolf and a witch. And trust me, those ones are the deadliest.” I nodded slowly. “I can imagine." Kira turned to me with a serious expression. “No, Lyra. You can’t imagine. A witch who’s also a wolf? She could kill the most powerful Alpha with her claws and not even break a sweat.”
