Love, Left Too Late
I looked at his stunned expression and finally asked the question I had carried silently for five years.
"Gerald Cooper, did you ever really love me?"
He blinked, caught off guard, but then rushed to answer, "Of course. Why else would I come back for you? Nessa, you're the only one I'd ever return to."
I shook my head. "I don't think so.
"You didn't come back because you love me. You came back because you finally realized you’ve lost the little toy who always listened to you."
His face twisted in confusion.
I did not stop there. "If I loved someone, I'd hold their heart carefully in my palms. I'd never go to another man while he was burning up with fever. I wouldn't let him cry, wouldn't let
