Seeing Steve there was the last thing she expected. She could not help noticing how he seemed at home. When his team scored, he joined the rest of his teammates in one corner and did a celebratory dance. Besides the colour of his skin that was easy to pick up from a distance, Steve seemed to belong there. She could not help herself from looking at him. He was playing topless, exposing his masculine chest which looked shiny because of sweat. He had a simple short which she recognised. Her cousin, Jay must have lent it to him. Steve was hot for a white man, she thought, biting her lower lip.

"Steven, I need you in Ashtonville tomorrow." Steven Warner, the White family's personal chef, was renowned for his exceptional culinary skills, having proved his mettle over two generations of the White family. "Mr. White, New Year's Eve is the day after tomorrow. Why are you asking me to go to Ashtonville? You already said that I wouldn't need to prepare the White family's New Year's dinner this year and that I could take the holidays off. Mira clawed at her throat, her eyes wide, terrified, her fingers scraping at nothing as the invisible force tightened around her neck. Once he could see a little, he was stunned by what he saw and so was everyone else. Mercedes's body had risen in the air floating above them. Her body was limp and still luminous. The shocking part was the spectrals of the White Wolves that were floating around her. The golden runes on their bodies glowed brightly. Everyone was amazed by their majestic forms, including Felix. It was their first time seeing the great White Wolves, and they felt honored to be in their presence. Felix was worried. He thought the White Wolves appeared to take Mercedes with them. He was not going to let that happen, even if it meant that he would have to risk his life.
