The dog kept coming, trying to push her off the stone. Her head hung over the edge as she stared down at the concrete below. If she had fallen headfirst, she would never have lived to see this day. But she had no way to fight back. The dog was too large, and it toyed with her effortlessly. Then it reared up on its hind legs, and Giana lost her footing and fell. In the instant before she hit the ground, a flash of red caught the corner of her eye. A thud and a crack rang out in quick succession. The first sound came from Giana landing. The second came from a bone breaking.

I stood up to follow him, but I stumbled and fell back on the chair, my vision a bit hazy. But it quickly cleared up.
