I nod, gripping his fur tighter, taking strength from him. But the reassurance barely lasts a second, because something in the air changes. The pack’s rhythm falters, a ripple of unease running through the air. The ground beneath us seems to hum with tension, and then Parker stumbles. It’s small at first. A hitch in his stride. Then another. His front paws catch on the uneven ground, and he lets out a sharp, broken whine that makes my blood run cold.

I saw a rusty metal rod at the side, long enough to use it to make him go away, but as soon as I grabbed it, he just barked at me even louder. "Your barks are too loud for a small dog like you," I said to him. I slowly walked towards him. He squeezed himself at the corner while still barking at me, and when I extended my arm to get my shoe off of his mouth, he suddenly dropped it on the ground and ran towards me. I got scared suddenly, so I lost my balance, hit my butt on the ground, and lost the metal rod; that's why it landed on my feet, and it hurts so much!

She stumbled, catching herself on the edge of a lamppost. A woman walking her dog glanced over but kept walking. “Help…” Serena whispered, but it came out like air, barely formed. The world tilted. She had better not go far. Thankfully, Dylan coughs, then he rolls over onto all fours before he shakily stands up, taking a deep breath as he does. I can’t help but smile. He is okay. I am going to assume his wolf has fixed his spine and his ribs. He is literally only on his feet for two seconds before he falls over, though. Whether he is weak from blood loss or his injuries or because of years of being wheelchair bound. I don’t know or care. He is alive.

However, 23 was still young and had not been trained. It did not understand its owner’s command. It thought there might be a treat, so it immediately lowered its head to sniff.

’ I heard him asking me again suspiciously. ‘Yes, I think so.’ I answered back, while my hand was still unconsciously caressing his fur. Then, I noticed that his body was trembling under me. ‘Don’t tell me this is the start of an epileptic seizure?’ I thought worriedly. Two of my pack members experienced that a month ago. It’s a new thing that our pack experienced and based on my research, that causes many things from genetic epilepsy, nutritional imbalances, to infectious diseases.
