Why Is My Pen Blinking Red Novels & Stories

The servers in the west wing hummed louder than usual — that low, electric growl that never meant anything good. Something was wrong. I could feel it. I’d just finished shutting down my tablet when the alert system blinked again, a faint red light pulsing in the corner of the study. I frowned. I hadn’t triggered any command. “Zane?” I called out. No answer. I waited a moment, then stepped closer. The red light kept blinking, faster now, like a heartbeat on caffeine. I tapped the screen. The interface stuttered, lines of code racing across the monitor before a new window forced itself open.

And far away, in the woods near the villa, a hidden device began to blink. Red. Beeping. Countdown started: 00:10… 00:09… 00:08…

The screen blinked once… then twice… And then…nothing as everything went ompletely blank. The cursor blinked in the corner of a white screen like it was mocking me. I frowned, trying again. The screen didn’t change. “Uh… just a moment,” I said quickly, forcing a nervous smile. I bent over, clicked around, unplugged the drive, plugged it back in and still nothing changed. My pulse spiked and a faint murmur rippled through the room. I could feel every eye on me. “Is there a problem, Mr. Brad Jasper?” one of the lecturers asked, and I could feel a hint of impatience in his voice.

Again, with my thoughts. My fingers tapped on the desk, making a beat that didn’t make sense. Due to the heavy tapping, my pen dropped on the floor, rolling down my desk. I clenched my jaw in defeat and adjusted my chair backward. As I lowered my head under the desk, a red light blinked into my eyes from a device. My heart pounded, unsure of what to see, and I reached for the light. I felt it, it was a tiny device. A bug! “Who the fuck bugged my office?”

And the Unexplainable thing happened as I was staring at those red eyes the new tattoo on my neck started to tingle. I ran my hands on the mark at the sensation; it may be my imagination, but I think the brightness of those eyes increased a bit. Okay, that's weird. How can that be possible? I try to concentrate on looking into those lights to identify what that is. My eyes start to sting because of the strain from looking at it without blinking for a long time. When I blink them once, it doesn't even take a second, but the red lights are gone. And the window is closed.

Then, slowly, red text bled across my vision, one word at a time. > Delete Host? The cursor blinked once. Twice. Waiting for an answer. And everything went still.

Throughout my time outside, I scrutinized every single corner of the pen, and realized that half of the barrel could turn. Once it turned fully, a green light blinked on the plunger, and a tiny screen appeared on the body. The screen showed the words ‘input command’. Then I just said whatever came to mind. “Subdue men in Country K army uniform. Location: warehouse at Flaming hills, and old vintage library. That’s all I said,” I conclude. Zeath huffs a smile. “I can’t believe I underestimated you. So, basically, resetting the pen means flushing the blood of the previous commander out of it.”

“Heard something about that too.” “The west gate?” Joren shook his head. “If it blinked, no one told us about it.” “Probably just a hiccup,” Tomas said. “Those lines run longer, more prone to flicker. Captain said not to worry unless the red light stays on. Did it?” “Didn’t hear that it did,” Seren said, giving them the answer he knew they expected. “Then there you are,” Bran said. “Your toes are in more danger than your skin out there.”

“You will never take ownership of anything you say will you?” “When I say something wrong I will. So far nothing to report.” She says with ease. “Can you please look over the ads.” I exhale and open the folder. Pursing my lips as I look over her work. I grab my red marker and begin circling any and everything I can. She leans over watching me work. Her eyes go wide as she baulks at my red pen addiction I have suddenly developed. “Wait a minute! Are you serious?” She squeaks out as she reaches for the pen. I move it away from her reach.

It blinked red. HER stomach dipped. “Oh— maybe I didn’t—” She tried again. Red. Again. Red. Her pulse picked up. “I… I don’t think it’s working.” Adrian’s expression didn’t change, but a muscle twitched in his jaw. He took the badge from her gently, testing it himself. Red. Ethan appeared behind them, silent as a shadow. “Her clearance isn’t active yet,” he said. Adrian didn’t turn. “It should have been processed this morning.”
