“She traveled for a month before her wedding to Sabatine.”
I exhaled sharply, louder than I intended. “Go on.”
“She left no trace of where she was going. No itinerary, no communication, not even a postcard. Just vanished into thin air, and then came back suddenly, engaged.”
A cold knot tightened in my stomach. I turned and walked toward the window, needing space, needing the sky to clear the fog in my head. The city stretched out below, indifferent and unaware.
