Without warning, I bolted forward, my legs carrying me towards the open expanse of the forest. "Ariana, wait!" I heard Lucas's voice, tinged with urgency, but I couldn't stop myself. The sensation of running through the forest, the wind rustling through my fur, was exhilarating and freeing. The moon's silvery glow seemed to guide my path, and I felt an unexplainable connection to the wilderness around me. As I sprinted through the trees, I caught glimpses of Lucas behind me, his own transformation complete. He had turned into a magnificent red wolf.

He remembered how he had been when he was newly mated, when other wolves looked at Cora. His heart ached in his chest at the memory. "Waylon?"
