The Don's Wife, The Brother's Whore
Then, from somewhere near the bar — a voice, barely there, more breath than sound.
"He's back."
And another, lower.
"No. Can't be."
And then a third voice, sharper than the others, the word landing in the space between the music's beats with the weight of something that didn't need context to do its work.
"Cipher."
I picked my phone then called Refe immediately for an update, his voice was straight as always. "The Cipher Lord is in the city, no one knows who ordered him, but he is hunting."
The silence that followed that word was a different kind of silence than the music and conversation had been filling.
