The headlights of his car cut through the quiet darkness as he guided it forward, the night around him calm in a way that felt almost deceptive.
He glanced at the screen, then answered.
“Morgan.”
There was a brief pause before the captain spoke.
“Do you want to tell me something?” Morgan asked.
Damien leaned back slightly in his seat, his tone calm and unreadable. “I’m not sure what you’re talking about,” he said. Then, after a small pause, he added, “But I was actually going to call you.”
Morgan said nothing.
“I know you’ve been waiting,” Damien continued. “But I don’t think you should. It’s disappointing I know, but I can’t help you on this. All my channels didn’t turn up anything.”
