I can see the faint outline of what looks like wings spread behind her. Wings of fire that seem to take the shape of a heart… A piercing scream rips through the air as her power increases tenfold and surges into the sky, emanating in waves around her. I see the swirls of the flames behind her move before I see a tiny part of her left wing snap and shrivel into embers of ash. It’s too blinding to look at, and I’m forced to avert my gaze.

[The Command Center – 4:00 AM] Phoenix sat at the terminal, the blue light reflecting in the blood on her fingers—his blood, from where she had brushed the railing. The Deep Abyss Ruins. The map glowed blood-red on the screen. It was a place of eternal fire, a volcanic pocket where the Northern tectonic plates ground together like teeth. "Mommy?" Leo walked into the room, holding the origami wolf. He looked at the map, then at his mother’s pale, frozen face. "The Alpha is going to the fire mountain, isn't he?" Leo whispered. "We are all going, Leo," Phoenix said, her voice a vow of iron. "But first... we have to get you ready."

Jade's POV The roar of the lodge’s collapse was a physical blow to my back, a wave of heat and splintering cedar that pushed us face-first into the waist-deep snow. The white mink coat, the pearl-handled revolver, the electric-blue eyes of a sister I had only just met—it was all gone, swallowed by a pillar of blue-white chemical fire that turned the falling sleet into a mist of boiling gold. I lay there for a second, my lungs burning from the ozone, my fingers buried deep in the frozen crust of the earth. The "Quiet" I had fought so hard to find was finally here, but it was the silence of a vacuum.

“We fight together.” He looked at her, heart in his throat. “Even if we lose?” She kissed him, fierce and real. “We won’t. We can’t.” The Black Fire Upstairs, Jade stood in the ruins of the Ashford parlor. Flames danced around her. She walked through the wreckage like a queen surveying her ashes. Then she turned to Agent Seven. “Bring me the girl,” she said coldly. “Alive.” He nodded, vanishing into the shadows.

I look behind me and see that the ropes on her tail have been partially burned away, and as I get to my feet and run up her back, I begin wrapping her tail with ropes again. This time, rather than blowing her fire on me, she begins heating her body, making the temperature of her back much too hot. I feel blisters forming on the bottom of my feet, but I refuse to give up. When I get to where her wings insert into her back, she uses them to knock me around, trying to get me off of her. I pull one of the ropes off my chest and swing it around her wing as she sends me flying again. I use my element to wrap the rope around her wing, then I use that leverage to yank myself onto her back.

The private jet cut through the cloud cover, descending into a landscape Luna’s body remembered before her eyes confirmed it. The rolling, granite-grey mountains, the dense blankets of ancient pine, the sharp, thin air that smelled of frost and fir-needle even through sealed cabin pressure. Silvercrest Territory. A fist of cold, old emotion clenched in her chest, but she didn’t flinch. She let the feeling exist, then exhaled it as one would exhale smoke. It was just geography now. A site of strategic interest.

Tela whispered. They approached the mountain, and they saw a path leading up to its peak. The path was steep and winding, and the rocks were jagged and unforgiving. But Fionn and Tela were determined to reach the top. As they climbed, the fire grew brighter, and they heard a low, booming voice coming from the mountain. "Who dares to approach the mountain of the gods?" the voice asked. "We are Fionn and Tela," Fionn said, his voice shaking. "We come in peace." There was a long silence, and then the voice spoke again. "You may enter the mountain, but you must pass a test first," the voice said. "What test?" Fionn asked, his heart pounding in his chest. "You must pass through the ring of fire,"

It was as if they had trespassed into a Wonderland. Daemon Mountain was Florivera's highest mountain. Many of the city's residents liked to take a hike during the holidays as a retreat. Abigail and Felix have come here many times, but they never knew there was such a beautiful place within the mountains. It was understandable why there was a checkpoint set up outside. They parked their car, and a young, handsome jockey drove their car away while a pretty waitress led them into the courtyard. They passed through the front courtyard and walked through a path made from cobblestone. At the rear yard, it was another scene. Fresh flowers, artificial hills, fountains...

"You can be a sick little bastard." "Be quiet and take it like a tom!" Spitfire's command was punctuated with the loud sound of his hand striking furred flesh. "Yeah, should be easy." Jinx leaned in to try and focus on the map. "As long as I never have to look them in the eye again." "Fuck yes." Spitfire's voice rose again. "You like my PRICK in your ass, don't you, you big idiot?" "Gods almighty." Jinx tapped the edge of the map with his claw, praying he could focus and forget everything he heard. "This peak here. Where the map says the fountain is. That's the Mother Mountain. It's supposedly the source of all the water in the world."

They could only watch and hope for a miracle. Kari’s wings sprouted out of his back and he elevated into the sky to match Jasmine’s level. He intensified the ferocity of his dark beams and continued encasing the child within it. Jasmine began to slowly burn up and parts of her body were becoming dust. She descended back to the ground but Kari didn’t end the stream of his beams. Jasmine roared as she became engulfed in flames and the fire spread from her through the cracks in the earth. The flames roared ferociously through the plains and reached the farthest corners of Amania. It consumed houses, livestock, gardens and also, people.
