Drone footage of a wolf running through the crowded streets of the marketplace was playing on the screen, with big, red, flashing letters at the bottom that read: “RAMPAGING ALPHA ATTACK UNSUSPECTING CITIZENS: LIVE FOOTAGE.” My stomach dropped. The wolf on the screen was enormous, with wiry black fur and dark eyes that were so distinct and familiar that it made me clap my free hand over my mouth in shock. “That’s Daddy,” Nora whispered, reading my mind.

Almost. “Good morning, Naomi,” he said, getting up from his chair and approaching me. “Good morning, Casper,” I said curtly. “What's all this about?” I asked. “Discretion, Naomi,” he said. “I told you that some things are going on around here and that there are medium-sized wolves on the move. Things are changing; they are appearing in greater numbers, and we need to know more about them, especially if they are involved,” he explained, asking me to sit down and read the papers that were there.

I focus a bit more and notice that one of the wolves is Sylas; he has to be fighting Laslo. Sylas is a huge gray wolf, bigger than Laslo’s white wolf. Laslo’s wolf is swiping at Sylas, and his claws connect here and there. Sylas twists his body and kicks Laslo’s wolf, sending it flying into a tree. Laslo’s wolf lays at the base of the tree, sprawled out. Sylas marches to the tree base and hovers over Laslo’s wolf, snarling and biting. His jaw reaches over and grabs at the white wolf’s neck.

This time I couldn’t stifle my gasp, nor my surprise as both Alec and Kade’s wolves popped onto the screen. The video was only a few seconds long, but full of snarling and screaming. Kade’s wolf exploded from the forest in a rush of broken branches and snapping teeth, barreling into the first wolf he found. Alec followed after, sinking his teeth into the first who dare fight against him. The video faded out after one of the wolves was tossed in its direction, turning into nothing more than endless static.

Their fur shimmered as they shifted from their human forms into their powerful, majestic wolf selves. The wolves exchanged determined looks, their golden eyes gleaming with fierce resolve. They had trained tirelessly, honing their skills and preparing for the inevitable clash with the opposing pack. This was their chance to prove their mettle, to defend what was rightfully theirs.
