Izzy’s eyes were wide as she tasted the fluffy, sugary confection. She had never tasted anything as sweet as powdered clouds. It was like a sweet caress on her tongue. The delicacy looked like a large, powdered lollipop. The one that Nate offered her was rainbow colored, the many colors swirling in a circle around the stick in the center.

### "Do you like it, Za?" Khanza didn't answer. The girl seemed busy with ice cream in her hand. Three-colored ice cream that is made like a mountain in a bowl, then sweetened with oreo and wafers. This made Kenzo smile and look down to find the expression on Khanza's face. As soon as he lowered his head, Khanza apparently turned her head and smiled broadly. Very cute smile. The first smile Kenzo saw from Khanza. Not only her lips, but Khanza's eyes were smiling. And it made Kenzo's smile disappear. The guy immediately looked away and cleared his throat.

I asked, eyeing it suspiciously. “Open it.” I peek inside and my jaw actually drops. It’s full of candy. Not just any candy, my favorite candy. Sour gummy worms, chocolate-covered pretzels, those weird strawberry things I can never remember the name of but always buy anyway, and even those little caramel squares that stick to your teeth. Knox pulls out two pieces and slides them across the table. “For every question you get right, you get a reward.” My entire mood does a complete one-eighty. I sit up straighter and grab the candy like it’s made of gold. “Are you serious right now?”

Given what she’d survived, I couldn’t hold it against her. “He worked at the Sutton candy factory.” I pointed my spoon at her sugar monument. “Considered himself Willy Wonka. He didn’t make the candy, but he always said Wonka had the Oompa Loompas handle that anyway. He was in packaging – or as he put it, he made sure kids got excited just holding chocolate in the candy aisle. He loved the simplicity. Candy makes people happy.” “I bet your house was the place for Halloween trick-or-treating.” Constance added another mountain of sprinkles to her bowl.

"Not surprising. You'd have known if it was cheese or something edible though." I ignore that as he stares at it before looking at my neck, "Ha. Gluttony." Then he shakes his head, "Oh, Vanessa. I can't take this. I'm not one of you." "Well, you have to take it. It was Doc's gift, not mine." I say, smiling, "Plus, do you know your name actually has an ice cream flavour? Kiwi! Which totally goes with Kawaii. Who'd have thought?" He sends me a look, "Vanessa."

"And I won't?" Jade's laughter was light. "You can worry about that after the baby comes. For now, eat up. It's good for you." Helma was totally over it, having tasted what felt like a million candies to find the perfect ones for Wanda's gift. She flopped onto the couch and shot Wanda a text.
