World War One Fiction Books Novels & Stories

The Alpha has it. The first book had left its readers including me in a cliffhanger. I had always wanted to know what happened next on the journey of the main character. Actually it was not really about the world’s history, but it is just about the character travelling to different places in different times, discovering treasures, witnessing wars, anything that happened significantly on the year he had travelled on. And though it is a fictional story, it still has a touch of true world history in it, depending on where the character went and what time.

I like taking my time, that way, I can get used to the idea of living with Xander. Sitting behind the counter in the bookstore, I listen to Vincent talking to his cars while I place an order for new books. One of those books is The Art of War by Sun Tsu. I want to read it and see why Alexei loves it so much. My thoughts turn to the BBQ, and I must admit, I enjoyed it a lot. And Rosemarie was right. Everyone seemed pretty normal. I don’t know what I expected. Maybe guns and men smoking cigars while plotting the end of the world?

Michael asked, Alissa ventured further into the shop, she saw the sign for 'History'. Alissa turned into the area and scanned the spines. There appeared to have been two human world wars as that topic featured heavily. She picked one of the larger books up, scanning the back. Michael saw what she was looking at. “If you're looking for fighting techniques that won't help, they used their guns and planes.” Alissa mouthed the words back. “Don't ask,” he responded. “I'm looking to know more about...” Alissa waved in the general vicinity. Michael tapped at his chin and started looking at the books.

My breath caught in my throat, my lips parting as the words rang in my ears. I stared at it, reading it over. And over. And over again. Something heavy started in my chest, spreading through my entire body with a speed that made my breathing catch. My grip on the book tightened. Rose asked, forcing him to release it. Tyler struggled, but eventually, she dragged it away and opened it. It was only his books and his MP3 player. But Rose could feel it, there was more. She unzipped the smaller part of his bag and found a photograph. Her heart stopped. “T, who gave you this picture?” “No one.” “Tyler! This isn’t the time. Who gave you this picture?” “I’m not telling you anything.” “Tyler! Talk now!” she scolded. He crossed his arms. “Then tell me why Aunt Sonia sent us packing, and who did this to your face?”

Some of them read multiple times judging by the cracking of the binding. History. Military strategy. Economics. Law. Psychology. Philosophy. One entire shelf of biographies of powerful men across different centuries and continents. And then something that surprised me. Fiction. A whole section of it tucked into the far corner like something private. Novels. Some of them old enough that the titles had faded. I pulled one out carefully. A Russian novel. Thick. Dense. The kind of book that required patience and silence and the willingness to sit inside discomfort for extended periods.

The more I look through the book the more confused I become by the first few pages. The sharp contrast between the image of impending danger for the child to the full out war are like two sides of a coin. As I look over the images of the war I find myself going back and forth through the pages trying to make sense of what I’m seeing. What was the cause? Why did this war break out? I couldn’t help but find myself transfixed on the images of each page. The image while gruesome, we also hauntingly gorgeous and well done. But they needed some of the text to help answer some of my questions.
