“Wrap her in a towel.”
“And while you’re answering the phone, someone knocks at the front door. Would you answer it?”
Uncertainty crossed her face.
“It might be the fire brigade,” I suggested. “Or maybe your social worker.”
“I’d answer it,” she decided quickly, nodding hard.
“When you open the door, your neighbour says some boys smashed her window with a rock. She has to leave for work and wants you to wait in her flat for the glazier.”
“Little bastards,” Sharon muttered angrily, clenching her fists. “Always throwing things.”
