Kaelen rasped, his mechanical exoskeleton groaning as the red fog began to corrode the titanium plates. ​From the dark waters of the bay, the first of the Blood-Wraiths emerged. They weren't shifters, and they weren't machines. They were spindly, multi-limbed horrors made of a dark, oily substance that seemed to absorb the light around them. They didn't have eyes; they had "Scent-Slits" that pulsed with a red, bioluminescent glow. ​"They're not hunting us for our Resonance," Maya said, her golden-white aura flickering as she raised a shield. "They're hunting us for the 'Zero-Variable.' They’re scavengers of the 'New-Evolution'."

The world burned gold and crimson as Greed and Lust joined the fray. Their arrival sent a shockwave across the battlefield. The force of two ancient sins reunited, their energy thick and intoxicating. Greed’s wings shimmered with molten gold, while Lust’s aura blazed rose-red, every movement dripping with allure and annihilation. FRANKIE POV Something else caught my attention. Brea Connors was a hybrid. She was one-quarter witch bloodline, but had been screened and approved by the Royal seer. She was rated as a non-threat to the pack. That was interesting. I don’t think anyone knew that Brea was part witch. It wasn’t common for witches to be allowed within this pack in particular. He tried to shift mid-fight but was too slow. They tore him apart. I didn’t flinch. Couldn’t afford to. Another wolf, this one from Redpine, flung two daggers laced in what I was sure was extremely potent poison — one landed in a Wraith’s skull, the other caught an ally’s thigh. She fell, seizing. The Wraith melted. The girl died a minute later.
