Aldric descended from the dais, his footsteps measured, staff tapping a slow rhythm. “The oath will now be taken.” With a heavy groan and a shudder of hinges, the great ballroom doors closed behind us, sealing us in. The sound echoed with finality. “All participants entered their names voluntarily,” Aldric intoned, voice carrying to every corner. “Each will now confirm her understanding of the Hunt’s laws before witnesses.” He lifted the blade, its edge catching the candlelight. “One by one, you will offer blood and speak the oath. The crimson droplet subsequently would be used to make a promise on specific terms. It was a ritual of loyalty.
