Aldric descended from the dais, his footsteps measured, staff tapping a slow rhythm. “The oath will now be taken.” With a heavy groan and a shudder of hinges, the great ballroom doors closed behind us, sealing us in. The crimson droplet subsequently would be used to make a promise on specific terms. It was a ritual of loyalty.
