“You look like a thirsty bitch., Mads” Maddie wrenched the bottle from her mouth and spat the water out. She got to her feet and slammed the bottle down at his. Her blood boiled in an instant and she slapped him, square across the face. The resounding crack carried over the audience drawing every eye to the pair. Maddie didn’t care. She squared up to the much larger wolf, canines bared at him, daring him to say something else.

Light burst through the dark, blinding my eyes as flashes of my mother staring into Deimos’ eyes flooded in, her memories bleeding into mine — standing like a shield between him and me. ‘He is your enemy. I react without thinking. I turn to find something—anything—a picture of me and Tom on our honeymoon. I grab it quickly and smash it against Tom’s head. “Ow.” He releases me to grab his head. He looks back at me with a look of livid shock but I don’t linger in his stare. Luckily, everyone is equally shocked by this so no one moves to stop me as I run past them, out of the room, and out of the apartment.
