VOLUME TWO: FLUX: Flight Jack sprinted down the hall and skidded to a stop. The three men behind him copied his movements. They held their rifles at the ready in every direction, protecting him from all sides. He pushed his ear to the door and listened. A few muffled coughs came from within. He summoned fire into the palms of his hands, just hot enough to warp and melt the metal handle. Once it softened, he slammed his shoulder against the door and it burst open under his weight.

It's become the thing that keeps him grounded when everything else is shifting. I go to my office to work on the book I've been writing. The book about what comes after. The book about sustained choosing. The book about the life you build when you stop proving something and start living something. I've been working on it for months and it's nearly finished. The quiet of the house allows me to focus in a way that I couldn't focus before. I write for hours. By the time Dominic comes in from the garden, I've written over two thousand words. I'm in a flow state. I'm in the place where the words just come and the thinking happens through the writing.

I like to write this book, so I will always update it, no matter how long it has been. This isn't a long update, but I am halfway through writing the next update and for the first time in months, the words are actually flowing easily, and it's not a chore to write, I'm enjoying it. I'm someone who can't write for the sake of it, I have to be enjoying it and it has to happen naturally. That hasn't been happening for me lately and I can't explain why I just hope you enjoy this update and I promise I will upload the next update VERY shortly. “Third paragraph.” He read it. It was rougher. Less polished. The sentences didn’t flow as cleanly. It was also unmistakably real. Specific. Particular. The kind of writing that could only come from someone who had been in a room and had something happen and had needed to find words for it afterward.

The bright light turned into a angry red color. "You are breaking the flow of the story!" a voice boomed. It was not the Ink-Maya. It was not the child. It was a voice that sounded like her father, her mother and Julian all mixed together. "The flow is a prison!" Maya shouted back. She began to write on the page. She wrote about a hospital where people actually got better. She wrote about a village where the water wells never ran dry. She wrote about a man named Benson who was made of flesh and blood not wood and paper.

And then she had been reviewing the framework documentation — the protocols she and Sophia and Cameron had been building, the version that was now refined enough to be considered something that existed rather than something being constructed — and she had not left. Not because the work was urgent. Because the room was quiet and the city was lit below her window and she felt, sitting in the quiet, something she had been feeling more often lately: the desire to say something. Not to anyone specifically. To the record. To the document. To the space where a thing becomes true by being written. She opened a new document. The cursor blinked against blank white. She looked at it. She thought about

Sandra was too focused writing. Ideas poured into her mind faster than she could type, and she felt she could finish five chapters in one sitting. Her eyes stayed glued to the laptop screen as her fingers flew across the keyboard, moving almost of their own accord. Ding dong. She ignored the doorbell, lost in her rhythm. When she was in this kind of writing trance, nothing and no one could pull her away. Ding dong. Ding dong. Still, she didn’t move. She was right at the heart of the story….too deep to stop now. Any break in her concentration would ruin the flow.

Olivia sat at her desk with the lamp glowing dim and the night pressing at the windows like a heavy curtain. Her fingers trembled over the keyboard. The cursor blinked at her, waiting. She had been writing for hours, maybe days, it all blurred. Words poured out of her like blood from an open wound. Her novel.

Just the quiet beauty of this moment, this chapter, this page. She reached for her journal that night and wrote: The greatest stories aren’t written all at once. They’re built word by word. Day by day. With love. And time. And the courage to begin again.

The final movement took six weeks. Not six weeks of continuous writing — six weeks of the specific quality of work that knows it is completing itself: the days where the writing comes and the days where the sitting-with-it is the work.
