Writing In Future Tense Novels & Stories

The future— once again— was changing.

Professor Steven says as he sits in his chair. As I sit down to pen down my thoughts on how I envision myself in my future pack, I find myself completely engrossed in the process, losing track of time. The words flow effortlessly from my mind to the paper as I delve into the depths of my aspirations and dreams. The mere act of writing allows me to explore the possibilities that lie ahead. Painting a vivid picture of the person I aspire to become. In this moment, the world around me fades away; I am consumed by the sheer joy of self-reflection and envisioning a future filled with endless opportunities.

We are out on a team-building trip today. "Team-building?" "Basically, we came out to have some fun." Future Veronica did not reply right away. After a moment, she asked, "Is it March 20, 2025, on your side right now?" When I saw her message, I immediately switched screens and checked the date on my phone. It was indeed March 20, 2025. "Yes, that is the date," I replied. Right after I sent that, future Veronica continued, "Is the weather good today?"

The technology in this time is so advanced that you will not be able to imagine it even in your wildest dreams. The airports do not exist anymore. Instead there are spaceports. People travel from one planet to another planet, one galaxy to another galaxy for vacation, marriage ceremonies, birthdays etc. Each spaceport has upto 300 rockets and space shuttles. All the cars are now aircars. People do not need aeroplanes and trains anymore. They are just kept as models in the museum to help the upcoming generations to see these 'vintage' machines.

But I was already thinking about my next research project, my next goal, my next adventure. The future was mine to write, and it was going to be extraordinary.

I stared at the ceiling and reminisce what happened a while ago, I can’t help thinking but smile. The long wait is over, someone was interested in my story and my life. It’s shocking. It felt unreal. The tiredness of the whole day caught me up. My eyes started to close, my body was aching for some rest, and I don’t have any energy to do any. I let my consciousness slowly eat my whole body and was lost in dreams. Good night.

He nodded but didn't let go of my hand. "Ferris?" I prompted, and he turned to me, the excitement fading from his eyes, replaced by an expression I couldn't quite decipher. "Sometimes, thinking about the future is better than dwelling in the past, no matter how hard and bitter it is," he said. "One would say there's a reason for everything, but I don't believe that. Instead, I believe in working towards the future and letting go of the past. Work towards your future, Jam, and remember you have little ones to set an example for."

At that moment, I knew I had come back to the day I first received that call from my future self. The woman on the phone, who claimed to be me from ten years in the future, warned me not to say yes when Kieran asked for the car. At first, I did not believe it. Her number looked the same as mine, but I thought someone was only playing a prank on me. But then she said things about me that no one else knew. She named every secret I ever hid. Thus, I had no choice but to believe she really was the future me. She swore that Kieran would take my BMW and hand it over to the collectors to clear his debt.

Brent was my past. But the future? That was still unwritten. And I was finally holding the pen.

My telecel smartphone buzzed with every other message. Unknown: “You suppose you’re in advance ? You're no longer even close.” I exhaled sharply. “Then it’s time we get in advance.” Cipher idea they might erase their past. We had been approximately to rewrite their future.
