Somehow, that made the class even moan in sadness. Emmy rolled my eyes for the thousandth times. Carl’s gaze swept the room—and landed squarely on Emmy. For one terrifying second, it lingered. Then moved on, like nothing. But *she* felt it. He passed out a syllabus and leaned casually against the desk. “We’ll start with Gothic literature. Death, love, obsession—your usual tortured stuff.” He grinned faintly. “First up: *Wuthering Heights*. I expect an annotated reading of the first five chapters by Friday. Don’t come whining if it’s too intense. The Brontës don’t care.”

he said with a faint smile, settling onto the sofa opposite me. I watched as he reached for the stack of magazines and books on the center table, his fingers pausing when he picked up Wuthering Heights. A familiar nostalgia tugged at me as I saw the worn-out cover in his hands. “Wuthering Heights?” he said, glancing at me. “You’ve read this?” “Of course I have,” I replied, leaning back against the cushions. “It’s one of my favorites. Though I have to admit, it’s not the easiest story to love.”

The walls being light colored didn’t surprise me more than the mountains upon mountains of books he has sitting on bookshelves surrounding the room. I walk around the room running my hands over all the different titles and authors. Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, H.G Wells, and so much more. Wuthering Heights, a first edition version sat in a case in between the shelves by a set of double doors to what looks like a balcony. It stuck out to me more than any of the other titles because it surprises me more than anything that he would read a book such as that. I try to picture in my head him sitting in a chair with glasses, all relaxed and snuggled up reading a classical romance novel

He wasn’t the evil grandfather I’d built up in my mind… or the one Adrian had warned me about. To my surprise, we actually had a lot in common. His suite was straight out of some old-money, vintage film. When he asked me to fetch him a book from his library, I couldn’t help but sneak a peek. And there it was. Wuthering Heights. He owned an original archive copy. An actual archive of one of Emily Brontë’s first published editions… one I’d spent years looking for. It had sold out everywhere when I was a kid. He offered to let me borrow it.

“Deal. Though, if you do fall off, I’ll quote something dramatic from Wuthering Heights to make it a tragic moment.” “Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that,” I muttered, but his playful words made me feel a little more at ease. “Also, Wuthering Heights? I don't think I’ve read that.” “It’s an amazing novel about destructive and flawed love,” he explained, getting onto the motorcycle. “The story revolves around the intense and tumultuous relationship between Heathcliff, an orphan, and Catherine Earnshaw, the daughter of his adoptive family.” “Drama! I guess I’ll have to read it,” I said once I was strapped in behind him, holding on tightly.

I'd done what any sensible person would've; I went on live TV and apologized, what more do they want? I stood up and ambled to my bookshelf, I picked a random book and trudged outside. The day was nice and pleasant, the kind that made you want to be outside and at the same time too lazy to go. I parked my butt on the chair at the backyard and looked down at the book in my hands. "Aww men!" I groaned. The book on my hands was none other than Wuthering Heights. I groaned again. Oh well! Might as well see what happens to Heathcliff.

I walked angrily down the hallway on the way to my own bedroom and laid down. Groaning, I grabbed one of my English Lit books, 'Wuthering Heights,' and tried to get some reading done. That was a mistake… Cathy and Heathcliff were at least 20 years apart in age, at least that was what the analytical footnotes in my academic copy told me. Well, I'd succeeded in distracting myself from Bethany, but now Ellis crept back into my mind.

I touched the books devotedly and looked at Alessandro in complete shock. “Do you know how hard it is to find all these books?” I questioned when I saw the first edition of Wuthering Heights and pointed to it. “That book sold in 2007 for $225000... That's too much.” “It cost me almost $300000,” Alessandro said matter-of-factly. “It was a bit of a hassle to move everything, but it's worth it. All the books are yours to do with what you want. They are your property; the invoices were issued in your name, and I paid the respective taxes they carry.”

“Erm...It ...The title is Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte ...Here, You can have it “She said giving it to him. He collected it and observed it. “Must be interesting, Can you lend me when you are done reading it ?” “Sure ...you can take it now...I will read it later “she said immediately. “Oh finish reading it. I will collect it when you are done okay “He smiled and stood up to leave. He turned to look at her. “Anyways can I have your digits?”He said and flora mentally slapped herself to be sure she is not dreaming. She was about to say something when the homeroom teacher, Miss Doris entered the classroom.

she said, her tone still cold. I nodded, but a small sigh slipped out as I followed her downstairs. The house was quiet, almost too quiet. It felt like I was just going through the motions, each step mechanical. When we reached the living room, Hailey handed me a book from the pocket of her apron. It was Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. She placed it in my hands without a word, but I couldn’t help the bitter laugh that bubbled up inside me.
