I watch as my Beta shifts back into Xavier who turns to try to find out what’s going on and why they are here. The sound of him and one of the Rogues shouting slowly fades into the background as I lock eyes with the largest male. I can see something go off in the male’s eyes as he stops growling and his gaze softens. His eyes glazed over, and the rest of the men stood down, the male that was going after Xavier went back to the side of the others. Xavier gives us a confused look as he comes and stands beside me, and I nudge up against him so I can defend him if one were to attack him. Even with his warning growls, the rogues had advanced on us. “Ana, you need to shift!” Xavier yelled over his shoulder as he fought two rogues off. I was paralyzed with fear. I could see the question in his eyes. Why wasn’t I shifting? Xavier’s confusion created enough of a distraction that he wasn’t able to react in time as a rogue tore into his side. Xavier roared in pain. I heard patrol members running to aid us. One of the rogues tore into my side, causing my vision to blur. , “I’m so sorry.” I whispered.
