I turn back to the window and stare at the city again.
“So he wants humans around,” I say. “He wants streets and cameras and cops and witnesses.”
“That limits what he can do,” Mark says. “He cannot fully shift.”
“And neither can I,” I say, and my smile is ugly. “He thinks that levels us.”
“Does it?” Mark asks.
I glance at him. “It makes it more fun.”
Another knock comes, and this time I do not answer before the door opens. Lena walks in, tablet in hand, eyes bright in that way that means she has been digging.
