Honestly, my first stop would always be Archive of Our Own, no contest. The tagging system is a lifesaver for digging through specific dynamics, and you can sort by kudos which usually surfaces the stuff that really resonated with the community. Wattpad has a massive volume, obviously, but the quality can be super hit-or-miss; it’s more for casual browsing when you’re just in the mood for something quick and trope-y. I’ve found some surprisingly decent fics on FanFiction.net by sorting by favorites, even though the interface feels a bit dated.

A lot of the really passionate, character-deep dives I’ve stumbled across were actually on Tumblr, though. Writers will post threadfics or multi-part stories there, and the reblog chains help them spread. It’s less of a centralized collection and more of a scavenger hunt, but that’s part of the charm for me. Sometimes you’ll find a gem linked from a Discord server, too, but those are harder to just wander into.

What’s funny is that the popularity seems to shift with whichever YouTuber is playing the game at the moment. A new playthrough series drops, and suddenly my AO3 bookmarks explode with new Ayano/Kokona stuff I have to catch up on. The fansites and wikis sometimes have story sections, but they’re usually not as active as the big archives.

Okay, I might be in the minority here, but I actually get a bit tired of the 'Ayano was the stalker all along' twist. It's everywhere. The one that really got under my skin was a fic where the player character, the one you're controlling, suddenly realizes they're the one orchestrating the whole game's events from a higher level of reality, like they're Senpai's actual player and their obsession has been coded in. The meta-horror of it made the usual basement reveal feel cheap by comparison.

There's a less common one I keep going back to: Taro Yamada himself being the yandere, and Ayano's violent streak is just a desperate, twisted attempt to protect herself from him. It flips the whole power dynamic and makes you rethink every 'sweet' interaction. That kind of reversal sticks with me longer than any gore plot.

Honestly, a lot of the best stuff I've found lives on Ao3. The tagging system there is a godsend for specific character-centric stuff, and you can filter out all the pairings you're not interested in. There's some real dark gems there that explore the mental state of the 'yandere' archetype in ways I haven't seen elsewhere.

Wattpad has a ton of it, but the quality is... wildly variable. It's a good place to find shorter, more trope-heavy stories, but sifting for something with more depth takes effort.

Tumblr is still an underrated source for drabbles and headcanon threads, which sometimes spark ideas for longer fics. It's less about polished stories and more about raw, immediate character moments.
