“I’m looking out for you.”
“No, you’re judging me.” My throat is tight, but I push through. “You’ve always judged me, ever since I messed up that debate, or didn’t get into that school, or didn’t follow whatever checklist you made up in your head. You think I don’t know that?”
“I never said you had to be perfect.”
“You never had to,” I snap. “You just made it really fucking clear when I wasn’t.”
He stares at me and for once, he doesn’t have a comeback ready.
