She took the cup of tea, sipping it slowly. Warmth spread down her throat. “Little girls like you shouldn’t be in nightclubs,” Ricky scolded firmly. “You couldn’t even handle a single drink. He became really attached to my father so he brought him to stay with us, so my father named him and raised him.

He nodded, leaving me alone with the giant of a man. “I’m sorry about my mother. She does that all the time whenever she meets a girl around your age,” he explained. “I didn’t introduce myself, I’m Richard Junior, but everyone calls me Rick.” “it’s nice to meet you Rick,” I said, taking his hand. “What did you mean by girls around my age?” He seemed shocked by my question. “Everyone knows the story about how my little sister went missing.” I shook my head. “I’m sorry I’ve never heard it.”

As you can see, he was beaten. But then, there's that cut in his head. I think it was what took him out first. Before anything else.”

“Still stable. Still unconscious. But this is normal with the blood loss he had. He’ll wake when his body’s ready.” I nodded, but my chest didn’t loosen. My phone buzzed. Unknown number. I stepped into the hallway before answering. “Salvatore.” A familiar voice came through the line. “Ricci.” Juan. My spine straightened. “What do you want?” “I’m calling about a truce,” he said. “I didn’t approve what Hector did. I didn’t sanction the attack. I’m working on getting a location on him.” I didn’t say anything. Juan continued, “I know you don’t trust me. You shouldn’t. But I’m not stupid enough to take on the Riccis and the O’Connells together. Hector acted alone. I want to make that clear.”
