Author's pov At the Locke estate, the same evening. Zane sat alone in his private study, the lights low and the room quiet. He opened the drawer and took out the DNA results that had arrived earlier. He hadn't looked at them right away. He waited until the house was silent and he was ready to face whatever the truth was. With trembling fingers, he tore open the envelope and unfolded the report. Flipping to the final page, his eyes scanned for the summary. His breath caught.

“Who is the man in this picture?” I swallowed hard, the anger draining out of me for a fraction of a second as a dull ache settled in my chest. “That’s my father,” I said softly. “He died when I was very young. My mom kept that picture everywhere we moved.” Zane looked down at the photograph for a long, quiet moment, his thumb tracing the burnt silver edge of the frame. Then, he looked up, his gaze sliding past me to land directly on Andrew. “And for the record,” Zane added, his voice completely deadpan and dripping with aristocratic disdain, “my hair is naturally ginger. I do not 'dye' it, you insecure little man.”

Victoria lifelessly sat in the middle of the courthouse as the judge recited everything except the fact that Xerxes told him not to say. It was about Zane’s real family, after he had revealed this, he had spoken to those who heard that they should not tell Zane or else they would be cursed and ruin everything, while he had locked this memory in Nicholas’s mind. Xane set down his glass and smiled politely at my parents. “Would it be alright if I used your restroom?” “Of course,” Dad said. “Zoe, why don’t you take him?” Zoe perked up instantly. “Sure—” Mum shot her a knowing look. “And try to keep your little crush contained, hmm?”

“I wasn’t sure what was real. Your file was encrypted. The academy hid everything about you. And when I started digging, I found things that could get you killed.” “Like what?” Xander hesitated. “Like the bounty,” Damon answered cheerfully. Xander punched him so hard the monitor cracked. Zade’s knees nearly buckled. “Bounty?” he whispered, horrified. Damon wiped blood from his nose. “Oh yes. Quite a large one. Enough to fund a small army. Your bloodline carries rare genetic markers—instinct potential, pack-binding traits, pheromone strength they tried to erase from history.” Zade couldn’t speak.

Passing me an unflinching gaze, she said, “Not overconfident, Mr. Xander but I am confident about myself and my medical abilities.” So her words from that night were true. I thought Zara was able to get into Churchwill because of her looks and beauty but I was wrong. She is indeed a good doctor. I blinked my eyes, the moment I had Zara getting closer to me. She discussed with me, her voice low, “Xander, the gene therapy proposed by him definitely has a good potential. It's one of its kind gene therapy that can correct unmutated genes. This is worth investing in.”

You had me in the air so fast I didn’t get to introduce you,” Dani said, smiling, and giving JT a small punch in the arm. “Zane is a neurologist from my hospital in Dallas. I asked him to come check out Aunt Lu and make sure she was really ready to transition home.”
