Zeke stumbles in from the closet. He was bitten last week. His skin is gray and peeling; pus leaks from sores on his arms. He smells of rotten meat and shit. His eyes are milky white. He groans low. I retreat backward, holding my heart because it's pounding. I grab my knife but he's quick.

My heart sank to the bottom of my stomach.

Panic threatened to consume all reason as the movement grew closer. She did her best to focus on what she’d learned from those conversations. Her aunt had encountered a few mutants in the early years of the apocalypse. She said little about it, but Kendra could tell that whatever her aunt was forced to do had an unpleasant impact on her aunt’s soul.

I lifted my head to see what happened to Apocalypse. To my surprise was there a big hole in the ceiling and lots of debris and rubble mixed with wooden beams. I got up and walked over to what was over of the ceiling. I heard some groans coming from under the debris. Apocalypse was barely alive and stuck under big stone pieces and wooden beams. “You have to do better and more than this to stop me, you pathetic woman.” She coughed and spitted a clot of blood.

I'd never love a woman with no brains like you! He pulled up the ladder entirely and disappeared into the vent. The zombies were getting closer now. I could hear their roars even from where I stood. I shot down a couple that got too close. Through the corner of my eye, I saw Yvonne stood petrified, and she was shaking all over. A zombie lunged at her. I thought it would tear her apart, but Yvonne rolled out of the way, then she snapped up a metal pipe and smashed it down on the zombie.
