A Queen Among Tempests
My latte toned skin has become dull and ashen, dark circles surround my dark brown eyes, making them look hollow and my dark black curls no longer frame my face or sit neatly on the back of my neck, but instead, are oily, knotted clumps that look like someone scooped dirt off the forest floor and dumped it onto my head.
“Michael? Is everything okay?” Landry’s concerned voice forces its way through the pack link, and I wonder how long I’ve been in the bathroom wallowing in self-pity.
“I’ll be out in a second,” I respond.
Is everything okay? How the fuck does he expect me to answer that? Shit hasn’t been okay in a long fucking time, and it never will be again.
