"I know, Dad, but Omegas like us have a hard time in this society and I heard the college is built up of ranks, and only wolves with rich parents are allowed to attend it. Lovely is just lucky to get a scholarship there now that they are trying to accept ordinary students. They despise low-class wolves like us, and I can't stand their judgment and prejudice," Daniel clenched his fists into tight balls, anger apparent in his voice. "Enough with the negativity. They are just werewolves like us and think they will like my little girl," Mom commented and continued eating her vegetables. "Daniel is right, even if you don’t want to admit it. They may be werewolves like us, but they treat us Omegas as inferior. They don't see us as equals because of our rank. It's infuriating," my dad commented, his dark eyes burning with fury. "With all the things I have heard about their treatment of Omegas, I don't think I will like them," I admitted, feeling a bit fuzzy. *** Amber Darlington, a young black omega, moves to a new pack with her family looking for a fresh start after being banished from their pack. The hot sun beat down brutally, its rays threatening to burn my skin as my father’s jeep drove into the Everbite Pack. My family, consisting of my parents, my elder brother Daniel, and me, had set off on this adventure to join a new pack after I got admitted into a popular college. But it wasn’t just any ordinary move; we were werewolves, and our pack, the Woodland pack, had also declared us outlaws. Being an Omega and the daughter of a cleaner in the packhouse, I had always struggled to fit in with the other werewolves and fought insecurities that gnawed at my self-esteem. The werewolf society was challenging, and I longed to escape the borders of the old pack and chase my dreams of becoming a famous perfumer. Against all odds, I had been accepted into the most prestigious university known among the packs. It was a chance for a new beginning, a chance to leave behind the prejudices and embrace my passion. As we pulled up in front of a white-painted mansion, from the outside, the house looked luxurious. It had been built with tan stones and had marble decorations, with small triangular windows. The golden door shone in the sunlight, and a smile touched my lips. I couldn’t wait to see what the inside looked like. I stepped out of the car, my heart pitter-pattering against my ribcage. "I can't believe we are here," I remarked with a smile, looking forward to what this new pack had to offer. Daniel, my protective brother, stood beside me. He was about six feet two inches tall, with light brown eyes and a rough charm that drew attention wherever he went, and compared to him, I looked like a child in comparison. His company always reassured me, and he flashed me a warm smile, revealing his dimples. "Lovely, why are you staring at me?" He teased as we began unloading the luggage from the trunk. Lovely was what only he called me; it was my nickname, and whenever I heard it, I knew it was him even without seeing his face. "Nothing," I responded, my voice sounding tired. "I’m just lost in thought," My eyes drifted to my parents, who were both engaged in a quiet conversation, their faces filled with concern and worry. My father was worried about something, and my mother, with her long, wavy hair, had a serious expression on her face. Confusion wrinkled my brow, and I was forced to ask. "Dad, what’s with the holdup? Aren't we going inside?" I questioned. "Not yet, sweetie," he replied, his brow creased with worry. "I need to contact my friend, Mr. Martin, to bring us the keys to the house, he promised to meet us here." "Mom, I thought we already had the keys. Why didn't we get them before coming here?" I inquired, unable to understand what was going on. "Oh, honey, sometimes things don't go as planned," she commented, her voice soothing. "But don't worry, we will sort it out." But Daniel wasn’t having it, he had already started pacing back and forth, his face painted with frustration. "Shit, Dad, I never trusted that man. Didn't I tell you he would do something like this?!" His words exploded with anger. "Let me handle this, son," Dad declared. "He will be here soon," he added as he placed his phone to his ear, trying to reach out to his friend, who wasn’t picking up the call. A rolling sigh escaped my throat, I tipped my face to the bright sun, and it hit my face, and my eyes shut. The sun beat down on us with merciless strength. Sweat slicked our brows, and the air vibrated with heat, but we endured it—our skin didn’t burn, though every instinct screamed to find shade before we overheated. "Why did we have to move on such a hot day?" I complained. "Because school starts tomorrow, honey," my mother reminded me as excitement added shine to her eyes and polish to her cheeks. She let go of the handle of her luggage and rested against the hood of the car. We waited for what felt like a million years, with the sun still burning our skin, and finally, Mr. Martin, or whatever his name was, approached us. He was a he-wolf from the Everbite pack and also my father’s only friend here. The air around us seemed as thick as the ocean. The asshole walked over to my father, seemingly unfazed by the situation. "What took you so long?" Dad demanded, his voice filled with anger. "Um, I…I was on my way here when I received a call from the house owner," Mr. Martin replied, his expression serious. "They want their house back, they don't want to sell it to a family from the Woodland Pack, especially one of the Omega ranks. I am sorry, I tried to talk to them, but there was nothing I could do." "What do you mean, Omega Rank?!" Daniel’s voice rose with anger until he was yelling as he confronted Mr. Martin, only to be held back by our father. "Stay out of this," Dad warned, and Daniel reluctantly backed off, his face contorted with barely contained fury. "What about the money we have already paid for the house? Aren’t they going to refund us?" Dad's voice resounded with anger. Mr. Martin's response cut through the air like a slap. "I will return your money by next month," he said casually. Unable to control his anger, he grabbed Mr. Martin by the collar, drawing him closer with an aggressive glare. "Next month? You have got to be kidding me. Where do you expect my family to live?" he growled, and it was as if his wolf was in control. Mr. Martin avoided his eyes. "I-I wish I could help, old friend, but there is nothing I can do," he stammered. Daniel stepped forward and pulled out something from his pocket, and my jaw almost hit the floor at what I saw. It was—it was a fucking gun, a handgun. Before I could come to terms with what was happening, he fired a shot into the air, then pointed the gun at Mr. Martin’s head. "People never do the right thing until they are forced to," Daniel commented, his teeth bared, revealing his fangs. Mr. Martin trembled, his legs like jelly, and he almost peed his pants. "Here... here is the key," he stuttered, pulling it out of his back pocket. We all watched him in stunned disbelief as the tables turned. Daniel snatched the keys and turned on the safety of the gun before shoving it back into his pocket. "I…I thought you were my friend, you heartless jerk. Why would you do this to me?" My father’s voice trembled with disappointment and betrayal. Mr. Martin's response held a bitter truth. "I am sorry, I was overcome by greed. I was going to receive payment from two families and keep one for myself," he confessed before fleeing with his briefcase. "Better run!" Daniel shouted after him, kicking the air in frustration. "Dad, you always seem to have the worst luck with friends," Daniel commented, shaking his head as he dragged his luggage toward the house. I opened my mouth to say something, but no words came out. I wanted to know how and where he got the gun, but it seems my parents already knew about it, so there was no use asking. We followed him as he unlocked the door of the mansion and pushed the doors open. We stepped into the thick darkness. I fumbled for my phone and switched on the flashlight, its light cutting through the dark. My mother found the light switch and turned it on, the light illuminated the surroundings, and we all sighed collectively. The house's living room was a total mess, with white clothes strewn about and garbage scattered. It was also filled with dust and cobwebs, the complete opposite of the home we had pictured. "Come on, kids. We have a lot of cleaning to do," Mom said, her voice determined as she gathered her wavy locks into a bun. Daniel suggested we tackle our rooms first, pointing out that the house had three bedrooms, perfectly accommodating our family, and that Daniel and I each get our own room. "Okay, Dad," I agreed, following him up the grand stairs, dragging my luggage along with me. I entered the first room I came across, pushing the door open and rolling my luggage inside. The room was painted in shades of green, with a small window allowing a sliver of sunlight to filter through. A queen-sized bed occupied the center, its plushness inviting luxury, and a little chandelier hung from the ceiling, offering an air of elegance to the room. It was as if the family that lived here before us were royalty. I opened the wardrobe, finding it empty and ready to be filled with my belongings. There was another door opposite the bed, and as I opened it, a strong odor assaulted my nostrils. the bathroom was a mess and not different from a porta-potty.Amber's POV Watching Daniel and Bella kiss in front of me was like getting hit in the face with a wet sock. I mean, seriously? Right in front of me? I rolled my eyes so hard I thought they might get stuck in their sockets. My wolf gave a low growl of frustration inside me.“Why do they keep shoving their relationship in our face? They are mates who are lucky to be together, we know.” Raven lamented. It’s not even about Daniel, he is my brother, but seeing them together just reminded me of what I didn’t have. No, mate. No love. No attention except the undesirable kind from Alpha Mason and the puzzling type from Xavier. Was I supposed to like Xavier? Should I accept him? Ugh. I didn’t know. And I hated not knowing. “Good evening, my love,” Daniel mumbled, kissing Bella on the lips like we weren’t all standing right there. His lips parted hers in a soul-reaching massage, and she succumbed to the forceful domination of his lips. He kissed the pulsing hollow at the base
Amber's POVI waited for the last class to finish before rushing in to grab my bag. The moment the bell resounded in the halls, I ran into the main hall like a hungry wolf chasing after prey. My nose twisted, everyone’s scent still lingered in the hallway, strong and overwhelming, but I picked out Nate’s scent immediately as I walked into the courtyard. He was standing in the middle of the courtyard, talking to Elsa. Were they… friends?I walked over sluggishly, catching the sound of her loud giggle. She was laughing at everything Nate was saying, like he was the funniest person she had ever met. “Are you guys friends?” I questioned, squinting at her. My voice came out sharper than intended. “No offense.” “None taken, we just became friends,” Nate replied quickly, flashing me a toothy smile. “Elsa, meet Amber, my best friend.” He nudged me, and my eyes widened in astonishment. Best friend?I tried not to smile too much, but my cheeks betrayed me. “Nice to meet you, Elsa,” I be
Author's POV “I can’t try. I’m scared of rejection, and I haven’t found my mate either, maybe it’s for the best,” Nate remarked, his voice soft, like a pup confessing a forbidden secret.Amber smiled gently at him, her yellowish-brown eyes shiny underneath the dimly lit cafeteria. “Just try. There is no harm in trying and seeing if this fantasy of yours can become a reality,” she beamed, her tone filled with warmth and the pale growl of reassurance only another wolf could pick up on. Nate hesitated, rubbing his hands together nervously. “So… when should I try?” he questioned.“Tomorrow,” Amber replied resolutely, stretching her arms above her head with a small yawn. Her muscles ached from the stress of the day, and her wolf moved inside her, restless. “I can’t believe I have a friend who accepts me for who I am,” Nate commented with a ruffle of his ear, his eyes glossy with tears.“I don’t care about your sexuality. I like you for who you are,” Amber said, nudging his shoulder. “
Amber's POVI reached forward and handed the chef my food card, trying to keep my voice calm even though my heart was going haywire and the smile stretching across my face was impossible to control. “No, you don’t have to,” I beamed, my eyes flickering toward Xavier. “I will pay myself.”The chef hesitated for a beat, glancing between both cards.“Take mine,” I repeated more determinedly.“No, take mine,” Xavier urged, pushing his own card closer. “My card is unlimited.” “Um, I will just take your boyfriend’s,” the chef murmured, reaching for Alpha Xavier’s.A blush tinted the apples of my cheeks. “What?! He…he is not my boyfriend,” I protested, but it was already too late.“Let it go,” Xavier stated, grabbing his card back from the chef like it was nothing. “It’s a little something to win over your heart, soon you will be mine.”“I am already yours, Xavier,” Raven replied in my head. “Say it, girl, this is your chance.”I rolled my eyes and completely ignored her. Nate stepped u
Amber's POVI was barely listening to Alpha Xavier until he snapped his fingers in front of my face.“Amber! Earth to Amber,” he said with that nauseatingly cocky smirk. “So, what do you say? Will you be my girlfriend?”I blinked swiftly, trying to force my brain to catch up with what he had just said. Raven’s voice broke into my head. “We should take him up on his offer. He is still our mate after all,” she commented and continued. “And besides, we need someone to mate with, someone that will touch—” I interrupted her speech.“I thought after everything Alpha Mason had done to us, you would be more reserved, but it seems you are still as shameless as ever. Sometimes I wonder if you are a wolf or just a horny spaz.” I replied to her, still uncertain.I swallowed hard to keep back my shock. “I will… I will think about it,” I muttered, avoiding his fiery gaze and trying not to focus on how his hand was still holding mine.He tilted his head, still smiling like he owned the whole wor
Amber's POVI was still banging on the glass, hoping it would magically open. Of course, it didn’t. I could hear the clack of Mason's signature leather boots as he encircled the car and got in beside me.“It's no use,” he mumbled. “Look at me, Brownie.”I took a shaky breath and turned to face him, trying hard to hide the anger inside me with a forced calm. I wasn’t going to show fear. Not to him.“What do you want from me?” I inquired, staring him straight in the eyes. “Because last time I checked, you wanted nothing to do with me or even breathe the same air as me, now I am in your car? What are you up to, you sick bastard?” He smiled like he had won some game. “I can see you have some guts. I like that.” His hand reached out nonchalantly and grabbed a bottle of Coca-Cola from the cupholder. He held it out to me and expected me to take it. I hit it away. “I don’t want it.”The bottle rolled onto the floor, forgotten. He leaned in, moving closer until our legs were almost touching.
