"My Lord," Ava called, her hands tightly clasped together as she fidgeted with her pale, long fingers.
Funny how suddenly, she became shy.
He turned, his brow furrowed at her boldness. For the first time after many countless meetings, she finally had the courage to address him. He knows she isn't one to be afraid, seeing how many times she stood her ground from manipulators at the pack. A sly, yet barely visible smile crossed his strikingly handsome face. As he gazed down at her, his body half-turned towards her, he clasped his hands tightly behind him, waiting for her to speak.
She bowed, a customary gesture from a slave to their master, and this slave staring at him was his to keep. He had brought her here, and he wouldn't let anyone harm her, especially since she was his mate. She was his to protect.
"My Lord, I'm very thankful for..."
"Have you eaten, Ava?" he interrupted as her stomach grumbled. She quickly raised her head in surprise and placed her hands on her stomach, as if willing it to stop making noises. His lips twitched again in admiration. Every action she took piqued his interest, a constant reminder that Ava belonged to him. His wolf growled, urging him to claim her, but he resisted; she was only eighteen. Eighteen, with the perfect curves and an enchanting beauty, one he had observed closely as she grew up over the past ten years.
"What did you say, my Lord?" Now Ava believed that everyone else around was probably staring at her with disgust and hatred. And how much she loved that!
"Have you eaten?" Logan repeated. Repeating himself wasn't something he enjoyed, but he made an exception for her.
"Oh yes, my Lord," she lied, smiling, her hands wandering to her stomach. "I had a lot of..." her stomach growled again, cutting her off, and she nervously bit her lip.
"Hmmm, I see," Logan said, turning to leave. "Follow me."
"What?" She asked, despite hearing him clearly. She couldn't believe he had asked her to follow him.
"Ava," he called out, a reminder that he detested repeating himself.
"Yes, my Lord." She followed him quietly out of the Park slave quarters into a spacious area reserved for elites. She knew he was the Alpha's son; she was well aware of that. But he was also known as the Leader of the Pack due to his relentless efforts in protecting the Park from rogue invasions.
He led her to a building, a castle-like structure that left her in awe. She had never seen anything so beautiful, except perhaps when she was a child in her own pack many years ago. The beauty of this perfectly constructed building surpassed anything she had ever seen. Shirley must have been fortunate to work in such a place. Since Mrs. Beverly didn't like her, she never had the opportunity to work outside the slave quarters.
"The Palace, is this it, my Lord?" She asked, her curiosity getting the best of her.
"No," he replied simply. "This is my chamber. The palace is a two-hour ride from here, Ava."
Her eyes widened in shock. Why did he choose to live among the slaves? Did Shirley have to travel four hours each day to tend to the Queen?
"Come," he urged her further, pointing towards the dining area filled with food. "Sit and eat, Ava. Don't hold back because you won't be coming here again."
Her eyes sparkled at the array of foods laid out on the table, and her mouth watered instantly. Her stomach grumbled, urging her to indulge, but she hesitated.
"Why, my Lord?" She couldn't help but ask. "Why must I feast at your table when I can wait until noon? The food there is also very good."
Despite the internal battle between his wolf and himself to silence her with a kiss, a slight frown creased his face at her curiosity. "Is that the appreciation I get for ensuring my slave doesn't collapse while working?"
"My Slave," Logan repeated inwardly, a sign of possessiveness.
To avoid showing any signs of interest or emotion, Logan knew he had to be firm with her. While he cared for his slaves, she was special. Since bringing her to the Pack, he had made it a priority to provide better quality food. He wanted to witness her growth and blossoming right before his eyes.
She quickly bowed. "I'm so sorry, my Lord. I don't take your kindness for granted."
He grunted and motioned for her to sit. She complied and reluctantly began to eat, while he also sat, observing her closely.
After what felt like an eternity, she was too full to stand, her eyes struggling to stay open. She stared at the table intently, wondering if she had consumed garlic by mistake.
"My Lord," she called weakly, her eyes fighting to stay open. No, she couldn't let herself fall asleep. She had to return to the hearth, or her workload would double.
"Ava, are you alright?" Logan asked, concerned, as he quickly moved to her side.
"I think I ate garlic... I'm allergic to it, my Lord," she gasped, her throat feeling sore and itchy.
"Garlic?" He inquired, holding her firmly in his arms, her head resting against his chest as she felt the discomfort. Her wolf caught a whiff of his wolf's scent, and she longed to embrace him.
"Bryan!" Logan called, and a man in his early forties hurried into the dining area, wearing an apron.
"Is there garlic in the food?"
The man bowed and nodded. "Yes, my Lord. I added it as seasoning to the chicken."
"Goodness!" He exclaimed, picking her up in his arms. "Get the physician immediately. Tell them it's urgent."
"Yes, sir," Bryan replied, rushing out of the room. Logan carried her in his arms and took her upstairs to his room. He laid her down and was about to call for someone to fetch the physician when her hands grasped him tightly.
Ava watched him turn and look at her, her wolf ecstatic as she realised the truth.
"Mate," she whispered before drifting off, letting darkness envelop her words.
“What?!” Collins abruptly got up from the bed, his head spinning. He had just received different shocks all at once and he was having a hard time processing it.“I said I’m leaving the pack.” Ava repeated the words, her hands tightening by her side. There was no longer a place for her here. She couldn’t bear to stay after she had broken Collins’ heart in such a way. She had to leave. She was sure he wouldn’t stop her if that was what she wanted. He might even be more willing to make her leave. Her throat tightened at that thought. She felt another onslaught of tears approaching. “I don’t understand. Why are you leaving?” He asked, unable to wrap his head around what she was saying.“Isn’t it obvious?” She let out a frustrated laugh. “I obviously don’t have a place here anymore.”Collins’ eyes narrowed at her words. He didn’t know what was going through her head but he was sure she felt he would throw her out. His chest clenched at that thought. The thought had never crossed his mind
“Congratulations Luna.”Ava stared at the woman, her whole body frozen at the woman’s words. She felt like time might have stopped completely as she remained seated on the bed. Congratulations? What was there to congratulate?“You’re about three months gone. The baby seems to be in good health so there’s nothing to worry about in that aspect. Just focus on eating healthy and making sure you exercise frequently.”If the woman was concerned by Ava’s silence she didn’t say anything. Her gaze remained fixed on the floor. She was pregnant. The midwife had confirmed it after the examination she had done on her. The only reason she decided to even do one was on Collins’ insistence when she wouldn’t stop throwing up and feeling feverish. So this was the outcome of it after all. Her head was whirring with different thoughts. Her hunch had been right. Something told her she was pregnant when she first felt that nausea but she pushed it away, desperate to convince herself that it was something e
“I don’t care how you get it done. Just do your job as efficiently as possible.”The man in front of Ava nodded his head, a solemn look on his face. He had his hands at his back as he listened to the orders she was giving. She was seated behind her desk while he stood before her as she gave commands.“Alejandro, you know how much trust I have in you.” She continued, fiddling with a pen in her hand.“Of course ma’am. I know how much trust you’ve placed in me and will do my best to make sure it’s well kept.” He said, bowing his head a little.“I need this operation to be as clean as possible. I’ve given you the semantics and everything you’d need to know about the location. Leave absolutely no traces. Understood?” “Yes Ma’am. You can leave this to us. My men will make sure the operation is successful and is a clean operation as you’ve specified. You can count on us for this job.”Ava nodded her head before dismissing Alejandro. Alejandro was the leader of an operative team that special
Please don't kill mePlease don’t kill mePlease don’t kill meAnd then her headless body falling to the ground like a weightless bag of sand. Logan immediately woke up abruptly, his body drenched in sweat. He put a hand over his face as he tried to steady his breathing. It had only been a dream, yet it had felt more real than anything. It was as if he had been transported to that exact moment, with the girl before him, pleading for dear life as tears streamed down her face. The exact moment when her head was cut off and her body fell to the ground seemed to continue echoing in his head, like a broken recorder forever stuck on one song.He ran a hand through his head in frustration. He had to get it together. He was heir to the Alpha position of this pack. He would be Alpha someday. He couldn’t afford to show any form of weakness whatsoever.“Give nothing. Take everything.” He echoes the words his father had said to him that day. It was what Moonwalker pack lived by.They showed no we
“Moonwalker pack?” Ava asked, wondering if she heard Shirley correctly.Shirley nodded her head, a grim expression on her face. Ava took in what she’d just said. Moonwalker pack was on the move. What could she possibly mean by that? Her network of spies hadn’t gotten any information to her yet.“Can you tell us about it?” Collins asked, breaking the silence.“Sure thing.” Shirley looked around before speaking again. “Come in first so we can talk more.”They immediately headed inside, following after Shirley. Ava ignored Collins who had inched closer to her as they made their way to Shirley’s room. Shirley shut the door as soon as they entered. Ava sat on the bed immediately, already feeling the exhaustion from their long journey.“Hit me. What’s going on with Moonwalker?” She asked, already itching to know what had gone down.“Well, we just recently received news that Moonwalker made an attack on one of their allies.”“They did what?” Collins looked a bit taken aback by the news.“Yes
Breathe.“I love you.” Collins whispered into Ava’s ears. “I love you too.” She replied, a way of solidifying that statement. Anything to remind herself that she did really love him.“You’re so beautiful.” Collins began to kiss from her cheeks down to her neck. She stared at the top of their tent, admiring the shade of gray. Why was she so focused on a bleeding tent when she should be focused on the man who was now slowly peeling the clothes off.As he continued to make love to her, she often found herself thinking about the strange man at the bar that day. The man who had taken her breathe away in more ways than one. He would forever be etched in her memory. There was no doubt about that. She held onto Collins when he finally came inside her. As they laid side by side, trying to catch their breaths, she began to wonder what exactly was wrong with her. Was it possible to have so much already and still feel empty? She’d grown a career and made a name for herself. Not to mention she wa
