Alana’s POV.
“Who are you?” I asked fearfully, my heart hammering in my chest and the back of my neck prickling with apprehension at this tall stranger.
He was a handsome man,his lips were curled into an unreadable frown and he held up a hand to stop any further questions from me.
His aura looked like that of an alpha, there was always an air around them, and he had that same look of authority about him that was common among Alphas.
“I should ask you that.” He said, his voice deep and resonant. It sent shivers running down my spine at the sound of it, making my skin prickle with goosebumps.
“I’m within my pack and you seem like a trespasser.” I managed to spit out. I took in a quick breath, trying to steady myself and calm my nerves down. He looked amused. “So, what is your business here?”
He let out a low chuckle, “I came for a little visit, but I’ll be going right away.”
“Can I join you?” I blurted out before I could stop myself.
The man cocked an eyebrow, his gaze flicking from my face to my feet. I flushed with shame at having been caught so quickly.
“Why?” He questioned in that low, gravelly voice again. His eyes were narrowed in suspicion.
It made me fidgety under his stare.
I felt like a child being reprimanded, but I did not relent. In a small voice, I mumbled, “I don’t want to be here anymore.”
“I was planning to leave and wasn’t sure of the pack to go to, but I’m glad you’re here, you can take me with you, I won’t be branded a rogue.” I said, trying to reassure him.
It seemed to have the desired effect as his expression softened. He gave a tiny smile, and something inside me lit up with joy.
“What’s your name?” He inquired curiously.
It was a simple question, but something about it caused my heart to skip a beat, I couldn’t talk for a while.
“Alana.” I finally murmured out. He smiled and nodded in response.
“I’ll wait for you here, you can join me.” He offered, I blinked at him, surprised that he accepted my offer easily.
I hesitated only momentarily and stared at him suspiciously, my mind racing with thoughts on if he would hurt me or try and grab me if I tried anything foolish, then I shook my head.
“You need to come before the next day.” He explained when he saw the way I kept staring at him, “I’ll leave by then.”
I nodded running back to my room, I packed every cloth I had into my bag.
I sighed when I remembered that it was time for the pack’s evening meeting.
Thinking of meeting with the pack members who mocked me while I got rejected a few days ago, I felt sick inside. My stomach twisted uncomfortably with anxiety and I clutched my hands together tightly.
I shook it off, reminding myself that I’ll be leaving soon. I couldn’t wait to say goodbye to them and see the surprise on their faces.
Determined, I rushed towards the hall, the meeting was impromptu and was noticed earlier.
The location for the meeting was in the pack’s hall, which served mostly as a venue for the meetings between packs. It was quite spacious, enough space for a large group, but the seats were scattered across the ground, forming uneven rows.
Eyes suddenly turned to me when I entered, whispering erupted amongst some.
They stared at me and I tried to shrink into myself. As a result, I shook it off and managed a smile, reminding myself that I’ll be leaving soon.
Eyes
continued to bore into my back and I wondered how much longer they were going to keep looking at me like that.
At last, someone spoke up, a Gamma, “You must think the alpha will talk to you.” She drawled out, giving me an insolent smirk.
“Welcome to the impromptu meeting I called.” Nathan announced, breaking apart the crowd.
“There’s been an alarm in some packs and I wanted everyone to be vigilant lately.” He continued, his voice echoing throughout the hall.
“My beta and I are going to make our way to a nearby pack to investigate. Stay safe, everyone.” He instructed.
“I’m glad everyone is here.” I blurted out suddenly in a loud voice.
Nathan stopped dead in his tracks, and the whole hall fell silent. The entire pack focused all its attention on me, waiting for what I was going to say. I swallowed nervously wondering if I would say what I had on my mind.
“What sort of attention are you seeking right now?” Aurora questioned from where she sat.
“None.” I replied honestly. “My intentions are none of your business” I glanced over my shoulder and shot her a nasty glare.
My heart pounded nervously, and I found myself feeling uneasy once again. How long had I spent hiding here what I had to say? How many days and nights had I spent hiding from them during every constant embarrassment I got?
Forcing myself not to feel afraid of the pack, I stepped forward. “I don’t want any attention, I just want to say something, ” I explained carefully.
There wasn’t any point in stuttering. I would simply force myself to get it all out there and get it over with, “I don’t regret this decision I just made.”
“What decision?” Nathan questioned, his tone hardening. “We’ve waited for you to talk and you’re wasting everyone’s time.”
I stared at them, the irritation on their faces still obvious, I let out a shaky breath, unable to speak.
I couldn’t say a word, I couldn’t tell them why. My throat tightened in anticipation as I thought about telling them what I had in mind.
“Say what you want to say, you’re wasting everyone’s time.” Aurora sneered at me, obviously unsatisfied with my delay.
I bit my lip and took another step forward, ignoring the way my feet stumbled over each other, “I….”
Nathan’s POV.I could see the annoyance on her face, it made me wonder if she’ll let me in.Alana has made it clear with her actions recently that she wasn’t going to forgive me anytime soon. She stared at me with narrowed eyes, a sigh slipped past her lips.I remember how she sent me away yesterday, how she let Alpha Ethan walk in.I clenched my jaw, the memory of him being treated like he’s Liam’s father made my fist clench as well.I understand that she has every right to treat me this way, but it still felt like someone had stabbed me in the chest with a knife.I wanted nothing more than to start again with her, but she didn’t give me the chance to do so.“What are you doing here?” She asked with an unimpressed look that was supposed to be cold, but I could sense the underlying tension between us.My brows furrowed, “I came to visit Liam, see how he’s doing.” The words left my mouth slowly, I didn't want to sound too eager or desperate for her attention, but I was tired of waiting
Alana’s POV.I watched him walk away, his shoulders down a little, I couldn’t help but feel slightly bad for sending him away.He walked slowly towards the route leading him away from my place.I felt a little regretful, but I couldn’t change my decision, I had to stand on the fact that his change of mind and his sudden niceness towards me might not last.Alpha Ethan comes in with a smile, “So how is he?” He asked, his head inclined towards Liam.I rushed towards my son, my heart beating so loudly it made my cheeks hurt. I could hear him breathing heavily under my grasp and I let out a small sob.His eyes were closed but tears were streaming down his face, as if he was going to cry out loud again at any moment.“It’s okay, he’ll be fine.” Alpha Ethan said reassuringly while rubbing circles into my back. I didn’t look up, I could tell that he was looking at me worriedly. “I can’t believe this happened, he already hurt his hand and now this happened.” I sighed and began pacing the room
Nathan’s POV.I ran towards the direction of the border immediately. Alpha Ethan’s beta announced that rogues were trying to break in.The commotion made it difficult to get through the crowd and I could barely see what was going on. All I knew was that there’s a group of people trying to come into our territory. I paused when I noticed Alana and Liam, Liam screamed as he held leg.I turned to my beta who ran beside me, “Join his beta and him to the border, I need to check on my son.” I ordered. My beta nodded before she turned around and followed them. “Stay safe.” I told him as I ran off.It was hard to make out everything clearly from where I stood, but I moved towards them.“Please help me move his leg.” Alana said, tears were falling down her face and her face was pale. Her hands were shaking as Liam kept screaming.I lifted the cupboard off his leg and winced when I saw the damage. The nail from the cupboard had pierced his skin deeply. Blood trickled slowly onto the concrete
Alana’s POV.I rushed to Liam’s side and carried him up immediately, the bruise on his arm looked more serious up close, as well as his cut lip which was bleeding profusely.I had to stop myself from screaming,”I’m so sorry my love.” I patted his head.“It’s okay mom.” He replied teary eyed with a shaky smile as he stumbled while trying to stand.I tore part of my clothes and wrapped it around his wound, my heart hurt for him seeing him like this, my wolf howled in pain.I turned to Aurora who started laughing, “Look at how stupid you both look, mother and son standing there like idiots.” She snorted.I made Liam sit silently by the tree trunk, I stalked closer to her.My palm landed on her face as I snapped at her, “Shut up. You’re not funny Aurora.” I said coldly.“Why would you do that to my son?” I demanded.“Did you just hit me?” She yelled back.“Yes” I answered simply.Aurora tried hitting me back but I grabbed her wrists tightly, my nails dug deep into her skin until I heard h
Aurora’s POV.I watched Nathan from afar, I could see the longing in his eyes and how he wanted to hug his son immediately Alpha Ethan hugged him.I sighed, frustrated that everything so far didn’t happen the way I wanted. I yelped slightly when I realized the root of the tree I held on to pierced my hand through a thin branch as I was about to jump up. “Oh crap.” I mumbled under my breath. I stared at the direction of Alana’s house and realized that Nathan left, my anger at watching them increased, it made me upset that this wasn't going the way I planned.I turned around and walked back to my house, my anger not dissipating , I just wanted everything to go back the way it was before we came back here.I yelled to the empty house immediately I got in, throwing my bag on a chair, I let out an irritated sigh, “What am I going to do now?” I thought miserably. “Maybe if I ask the seer to say something else it would work.” I murmured to myself before turning away from the table toward
Nathan’s POV.“I went to your place and I couldn’t see you.” Aurora glared at Alana, her gaze lingered on Liam for a while before she stared at me.“Why are you looking for me?” I asked, my brow furrowed. She looked away from me but not without glancing at me once again. “I had something important to tell you.” “Okay, this is the part where I’ll go,” Alana interrupted, she grabbed Liam, “come on Liam let’s go.”I watched her walk away, the urge to follow her immediately came over me, but I knew I couldn’t do that with Aurora here.“What is it?” I turned to her with a frown.“You’re really not behaving like an Alpha anymore, you keep following Alana around, I know I’ve said this before, but it’s not looking good.” She crossed her arms over her chest, “you need to remember why you ended your relationship with her, you’re the one who told me what the seer said.”“Okay.” I didn’t plan on saying more, the seer’s words were still fresh in my head, I didn’t tell anyone what she said yet.“
