Lisa’s POV
The words came out a bit too blunt and awkward. I didn’t plan to say them like that, they just slipped out.
Dr. Marlow’s brows drew together. She blinked, hesitant, clearly debating how far she could go. I expected her to launch into a speech about confidentiality, but I didn’t wait.
“Please,” I said before she could speak. “I’m not here to make trouble. I just… I need to understand him. And I know this probably crosses a few lines. But I’m his wife. I’m carrying his child and…”
My voice cracked, just a little. Maybe it was real. Maybe it was strategy.
Either way, it worked.
The doctor sighed, then sat back. I saw it in her eyes, the indecision. Doctors probably heard a lot. Knew a lot. And they were trained to keep it all locked behind that calm, clinical expression.
“You weren’t supposed to be the carrier,” she said.
I tilted my head slightly. “Then who was?”
She hesitated, then said, “A woman, his maybe. She was here with Ronan earlier on to get through with the details.
