LISA'S POV

The amount of sleep I'm getting feels nice, but for some reason, there isn't the usual pack commotion; that can't be possible.

My eyes snap open, scanning my surroundings. This isn't my room. I'm in a dark-themed room with a few touches of white.

Looking down, I notice I'm lying naked with nothing but a large duvet covering me. Recalling the events of last night, I feel my cheeks heat up. Instead of the typical pack house commotions, Ronan's arms envelop me in the quiet room, with only the sounds of his light breathing and his musky cedar-wood scent calming my nerves.

Turning to face him, I find him looking even more charming in his sleep, lashes cascading down his face. My eyes linger on his bare chest adorned with tattoos. I knew he had a tattoo, but I've never seen it this close.

A huge flower design on the left side of his chest catches my attention. It looks like a rare flower, yet it seems familiar. I don't know, but I've seen it somewhere.

I bring my hand to his chest, placing a finger on the tattoo, but a surge of electricity at the little contact makes my stomach churn. We both feel the jolt because his body tenses, and I quickly remove my hand, glancing at the alarm clock reading five in the morning.

The normal time for my chores to begin, but today I feel a little weak. After last night, I deserve a break. Leaving after what we did might send the wrong message to Ronan. I wouldn't want him thinking I regret what happened between us last night and ran away, not after he told me he loves me.

I don't need a mirror to know my cheeks are redder than tomatoes. I wrap my arms tighter around his waist, and he pulls me closer. My head on his chest, I feel like the luckiest girl alive. I smile as the warmth of his body lulls me back to sleep, knowing that I wouldn't want to be anywhere else but here, in his arms.

When I wake up later, Ronan isn't in bed with me, but the sounds of pots and pans clashing reach my ears, indicating he's in the kitchen.

After a quick shower, I dress in one of Ronan's t-shirts and sweatpants because he ripped my clothes off me last night, and I don't have spare clothes. I looked around the bathroom for a dryer and when I didn't find any, I left my damp hair falling down my back.

As I contemplate going downstairs, I don't know what to expect or how to act around him. I don't know if I should act like nothing happened and be normal, yes I should act normal I've never had sex with anyone so I don't know how I'm supposed to act. I don’t know if I should say anything to him or not and if I'm to say anything what should I say? God! This is all so stressful.

I feel my heart racing as I walk around the room, beads of sweat running down my neck. It must be hot in here; maybe I should open the windows. When I pull the curtain, a beautiful ocean view greets me from the floor-length window, the sun casting sparkling reflections on the water as seagulls soar through the sky.

"Do you like the view?" a deep masculine voice asks, and my head snaps in the direction of it.

Ronan, leaning against the door frame in nothing but shorts. If I thought his tattoos were impressive when he was lying on the bed then now that he’s standing, it's a whole other level.

My eyes dart to his perfectly sculpted abs, and I have to fight the urge to run my fingers on them. "Like what you see?" he teases.

"What, no!" I quickly reply, feeling the heat rising in my cheeks. I turn my gaze to the window.

"If you say so, but I could've sworn—"

"Something smells nice down there. Did you cook?" I ask, and he only grins at my weak attempt to change the subject.

I feel stupid. Why did I even come up with such a terrible excuse? What do I do? I don't know what to do. Should I stay here, run to the balcony and jump, or walk out of the room? I think walking out of the room would be the most normal thing to do. I should probably go back to the pack house.

"Er, I have to go," I mumble as I make a beeline for the door.

"Not so fast," he smirks, blocking my way.

I manoeuvre around him, but he smoothly matches my movements, a playful glint in his eyes. "Leaving so soon?" he teases, leaning in a bit closer.

My heart stops when I feel the warmth of his proximity, and I fumble for words. "I, uh, just remembered something important. Duty calls," I stumble, my cheeks flushing. Ronan smirks, blocking my path with an amused expression.

He leans in a bit closer, his gaze intense. "You're not getting away that easily," he murmurs, his tone sending a shiver down my spine.

I take a deep breath, trying to steady myself. "I really should go," I mumble.

He leans closer; his lips are a few inches away from mine. We hear the front door downstairs opening, and I freeze in place. The smell of mulberries hits my nose and the only person I think I know with such a familiar scent– it's Kyle. "Ronan!" he shouted, coming up the stairs, yep that is Kyle. "You're not still sleeping, are you?" The sound of his steps getting closer. "I can't believe you're still sleeping on your big day."

He's probably a few steps away from the room, and now I'm freaking out. I can't get caught in Ronan's place, much less in his room and wearing his clothes. I'm so dead.

If Kyle finds me here, he'll probably tell, and if words get to the alpha, it will be officially over for me. I try moving, but my feet are stuck in place.

  • The Alpha’s reckoning    120: CALM BEFORE THE STORM

RONAN’S POV.The sun had already set by the time we returned to the pack house. Kyle carried Penny, who had fallen asleep somewhere along the way, her tiny head resting on his shoulder. Sergio was in my arms, his small body heavy with sleep until he stirred, rubbing his eyes groggily. The men I brought with me had already been dismissed, though not without Kyle warning them: "If I hear anything about that bear from anyone, you’ll lose your heads." They had nodded and slinked off, knowing better than to test his word. As we reached the apartment, I shifted Sergio gently in my arms and knocked on the door. For a moment, everything was quiet. Then the door swung open. Lisa stood there, her expression anxious and uncertain until her eyes landed on the sleepy boy in my arms. “Sergio!” she gasped, her hands flying to cover her mouth. Tears welled in her eyes as she dropped to her knees, unable to contain her relief. The boy’s sleepy face lit up with a tired but genuine smile. “

  • The Alpha’s reckoning    119: BYE BRUNO

RONAN’S POV I rush toward the bear, intent on pulling the kids off, but the beast lets out another guttural growl, sharp canines glistening with drool. It's a warning: Take one step, and I’ll tear you apart. But I don't care if it rips me to shreds so long as I can get those children away and ensure their safety, I'll take whatever comes.“Don’t attack us,” Sergio says calmly, his small voice cutting through the tension. The bear lowers its growl as Sergio pats it on the head. “It’s okay, Bruno. They won’t hurt us it’s just my daddy and his friends,” he says with a smile. To my surprise, the bear kneels, allowing Sergio to slide off its back like it's nothing more than a trained pony.“Daddy!” Sergio runs toward me, his tiny arms outstretched. I scoop him up, letting out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. The relief washes over me like a wave, he's safe. But the bear's dark eyes are still fixed on me, tracking every move I make as if daring me to try something reckless. From th

  • The Alpha’s reckoning    118: THE SEARCH

RONAN’S POV“Kyle, you stay back. Howard and Team A will come with me,” I state firmly, knowing full well Kyle is going to argue. But he needs rest. Those bastards roughed him up, and I made him interrogate them again. As much as he won’t admit it, he’s not at full strength yet.Team A is made up of our most trusted warriors. I would’ve gone alone, but I need all the eyes I can get and only trusted eyes. Someone from the inside helped with the kidnapping; I feel it in my gut.Even though they got in during the race, they couldn’t have made it this far without help. When I find out who betrayed us, I’ll make an example of them so no one ever tries it again.Kyle stands his ground, hands in his pockets. “I’m coming with you.”His wounds have mostly healed, just a slight pinkish tint on his cheek. But it doesn’t change the fact that he needs rest.“No, you need to go and rest,” I tell him firmly.“My niece is missing too,” Kyle says quietly, his gaze unwavering. “Both kids are like my ow

  • The Alpha’s reckoning    117: A GAME OF TEETH

RONAN'S POVFolding the sleeves of my blue button up shirt, I slip on my brass knuckles before taking a seat opposite him. The blonde guy across from me looks seconds away from pissing his pants. I tap the table lightly and lean forward with a cold smile. “We're in for some games tonight. I hope you’re ready.” He glares at me, trying to act tough. “What do you want from me?” I rest my elbows on the table. “First, how about you tell me your name?” “I’m not telling you shit,” he snarls. “Wrong answer,” I mutter, slamming my brass-covered fist into his face once, then twice. The sound of bone cracking echoes through the room as blood pours from his mouth. A tooth drops onto the table with a dull clink, and he groans in pain, spitting blood. “That should tell you I’m not here to play your ‘loyal spy’ games,” I say, wiping my knuckles clean. “Now, let’s try this again. What’s your name?” “Abel,” he whispers, trying hard to sound calm, but the fear in his eyes gives him away.

  • The Alpha’s reckoning    116: FINDING THE ANSWERS

RONAN’S POV “Baby, are you okay?” I ask, though I already know the answer. I don’t need to ask to know she isn’t okay. For the past three days, she hasn’t cried or shown any vulnerability. I know she wants Sergio back, I do too. Just the thought of what might be happening to my son right now makes me sick. I don’t know exactly what is going on, but if even a single strand of hair is missing from his head when I find him, I will make sure I burn down any pack or territory involved, no matter how small their part. “Do I look like I’m okay?” she asks, raising an eyebrow. “You don’t look okay,” I reply softly. She looks far from it. I know exactly what she’s doing, suppressing her emotions to stay strong. Gemma has been all over the place, crying and begging me to find her daughter. Lisa has been the only one holding things together, which means she’s bottling everything up to stay rational for everyone’s sake. But it’s eating her alive, and I know it because I feel it too. “L

LISA'S POV In a flash, we are no longer behind the bleachers, and the entire place erupts into chaos. People scatter in every direction, panicked voices rising over one another. My entire body freezes as if someone flipped a switch, cutting off my ability to think, move, or even breathe.Everything feels like it has stopped.“Lisa, I need to get you to safety now, please, don’t panic,” Ronan urges, his voice strained with urgency. His words barely register. It feels like I’m hearing them underwater, faint and distant. My limbs are paralyzed, every muscle locked in place, as if I have forgotten how to move.“I can’t go.” My voice is a trembling whisper as I take a step toward the chaotic crowd.“Lisa, no, it’s not safe in there,” Ronan shouts above the noise, trying to hold me back.“The kids are still in there! How am I supposed to leave when my children are caught in that madness?” My voice cracks with desperation as I try to sh
