I blinked repeatedly, my mouth open in awe as I stared at the old man.
He didn't looked like how I imagined, infact he looked worse, more intimidating. He was tall, 6ft and had a thin lean figure that fitted perfectly in the long blue robe he wore. His hair and beard was a wild mane of silver and the combination of the two made his face small. And his eyes…. They held a mischievous playful gaze yet something sinister lurked behind them. I shuddered, my voice creaking as I asked, “You … Y.. You are Elder Lan?” He laughed, his voice rounding the whole hallway like the echo of a demi god. “The one and only.” I stared at him, my throat tightening, not believing my eyes. Vera had said even the Mother Superior had never seen this man and yet he stood here before me in flesh and blood. I peered at him suspiciously, "Vera had said that no one had seen you, even the mother Superior? What would I believe that you are truly who you say you are?" He laughed lightly, shrugging his shoulders, “The ways of the goddess are different from ours, Child. Our Destinies are written by her. So are our paths." I grimaced as his words reminded me of a former memory. “You sound exactly like my Mother.” I said. Letting out a side bitter smile. My voice dropped to a cold icey tone, “The woman you killed.” His smile faded, his gaze fluttering as he shifted it from me and peered towards the window, looking at the full moon. "Like I said earlier, Child." He said, his voice low and creaking. "The ways of the goddess are different from us. Most times, what we see in front of us is far from what it really is.” I scoffed, my nails digging deep inside my palms as I grunted, “Save your petty sermons for the birds, Old man. They do not work on me.” He arched a brow, tilting his head lightly as he returned his gaze to me. "You didn't sound so tough when the king wanted to tear you to pieces.” he said with a mischievous grin. I coughed nervously, “You saw everything?” “Just enough to know you would have been dead if not for my timely intervention.” His stare at me intensifies and I swallowed, the mischievous grin fading from his face as he looked at me critically. “The shadow cave can only be accessed by four people," he began, " The Alpha Lord, the Mother Superior, Me……” He paused, his face darkening, “And the Moon Goddess's Reborn.” I raised a brow, peering at him like he spoke another language. “Are you the Moon Goddess's Reborn, child?” He asked. I let out a loud ridiculing laugh, like he just said the biggest joke of history. How could he think that I was the moon goddess's reborn? He stared me daggers and I coughed immediately supressing the remaining laughter. “Your visions," he said, adjusting his staff. "They manifest. Like the one that happened today.” “Yes," I blurted, finally regaining my composure, "He was supposed to kill me but he didn't.” I paused, snorting at him, "You came just in time to change everything.” Something flickered in his eyes like I had said something heavy, but he waved them aside and looked at me with a frown. “Your powers." He said, peering at accusingly, "You have been unable to access them.” “You mean my wolf,” I muttered and shrugged, “Maybe.” His frown darkened, "Maybe what?” I hesitated, shuddering at the memory of the spirit haunting me like a chilly nightmare. “Before I entered the cave, I saw my wolf spirit. It was strange. I was supposed to know her, to feel a connection, but.... I felt nothing.” Lan's reaction was instant. He rushed towards me, grabbing my hand roughly. His eyes fierce and urgent. “Listen to what I am about to say carefully child. If she appears to you next time, do not listen to anything she says and most importantly, do not go anywhere near her. Do you understand?!” A shiver rushed through my spine as I jerked back slightly, peering at him with panic, “Why would I do that?!” I barked. “She is my wolf spirit. I am supposed to bond to her.” “Like I said earlier, child. Most times, what we see in front of us is far from the truth,” he said grimly. “She might be your wolf spirit, but there is a history to it. Do not let it repeat itself.” He let go of my arms and stretched his other hand toward me. A glowing thread of light came out of me, pulsing with a rhythm that made my head swim. I stood frozen as the thread spiraled and twisted, obeying the subtle movements of his fingers. The spirit energy surged through my body, seeping through my veins, filling me with a strange, powerful pressure that left me gasping for air. “I have unlocked a bit of your power,” he said, letting his arm fall. The thread dissolved into the air like mist. “But believe me when I say that what I unlocked is nothing compared to the energy you have charging through you.” I trembled, every nerve inside me vibrating. What was happening to me? “Wait...” I gasped, holding my head as everything became wobbly. “I don't understand what you mean… Powers? What powers?” “You are a special child, Amara, the Moon Goddess's reborn." The words crashed over me like a tidel wave. Moon goddess? Powers? It made no sense. I was just an ordinary wolfless girl from the slums of Falme, why me? I stared at him, feeling like the ground had disappeared from under my feet. “The trail of threads tomorrow,” he said, shifting the conversation as if he hadn’t just shattered my world. “I hear Lia is amongst the maidens." Lia. The name barely passed through the buzzing in my ears. She was the most skilled of the house of Cheng. The one everyone wanted. He turned to me, his expression firm and stern. Leaving no room for argument. “You must make her your maiden, Amara. She is very skillful and would be of good use to you in the future.”He said. He hit his staff on the concrete and dissolved in the wind. I pressed my lips together as I stared at the empty space he had been standing before, my nails digging into my palms. I hadn't even stepped into this new world properly, and already it demanded allegiance, power plays, and trust I wasn't sure I could give. Every part of me wanted to run, to turn and never look back. But deep down, something in the way Lan spoke told me there was no turning back anymore. Tomorrow, the trail of threads would weave my fate. And I would have no choice but to follow them.A huge gust of light twirled around me, throwing the cave into chaos as lucy hung suspended in the air, growling and cursing.I could feel her bones crack, her heartbeat dropping with each passing second. The dark weaves grew stronger, overpowering the lights as they formed into shadowy mists.Lucy screamed as one of the weaves formed into a sharp dagger and pierced into her chest."Help me, Amara!" She cried as the weaves dug into her body. "I can't take this anymore."I panicked, feeling Lucy's life slip away as the weaves grew stronger.I didn't know what to do. This was my first time wolfing out fully. I couldn't control Lucy under normal circumstances, let alone now her life was in danger."Hang on, Lucy." I say within her, looking around the cave when my gaze falls on it,The necklace. It must have snapped when Lucy morphed out.Shit! The necklace lay on the floor, at the farthest part of the cave. Lucy and I were still suspended in the air. There was no way I could reach it."Yo
"Arghh!!!" we screamed as we fell through the dark void and landed face-first on the hard concrete.I groaned softly and turned onto my back, fluttering my eyes open to the tiny streams of sunlight that seeped in from above the cave."Shit. Where are we?" Morgana muttered, standing up and staggering slightly as she placed a hand on her head."I... I don't know," I replied, my head dizzy as I slowly helped myself to my feet, leaning on the cave wall for support.Morgana inhaled sharply and glared at me."This is all your fault," she snapped, glaring daggers at me."My fault?" I replied, stunned at the girl’s audacity."Yes! Your. Fault," she snarled. "If you had just minded your business, we wouldn't be here in the first place."I scoffed and rolled my eyes."Maybe if you hadn’t been so stupid to take the Poison Ivy," I grunted, "we wouldn’t actually be here in the first place."Morgana let out a gasp, staring at me in disbelief."You actually want to pin this on me?" she asked.I arch
Amara’s POVThe sky was clear. Too clear for a morning like this. A mournful stillness hung in the air as if the heavens had held their breath. The sun had risen pale and the trees stood frozen in solemn reverence. I should have found comfort in the serenity, but all I felt was dread. Afraid of what laid ahead of me.We walked in a line as Morgana and I led the procession. Both dressed in plain white tunics and scarves. No jewelry. No markings. No colour.Lucy stirred softly inside me. Solemn.I didn’t need to hear her to know how she felt . How she dreaded what might become. "You’re not alone, Amara." She voiced. "I'll fight with you."I nodded, giving a light smile to her comforting words. But was that be enough? Was she enough? The procession came to a stop at the base of the jagged hill, where the Cave sat on.One of the elders stepped forward—Elder Tirajo, his weathered face cold and stern as his white robe fluttered against the cold wind.He lifted his hands and muttered an i
"A lemon flavoured lip paint?" Benita raised a brow, licking her lips as they disengage from each other."Yep." Rebecca smirked, "Isn't it your favourite?"Benita chuckled and stepped away, gazing into the deserted field."Our Problem," She groaned, her tone darkening, "The worthless girl from Falme that claims to be the Moon Goddess Reborn."She tore her gaze from the field and peered at Rebecca."We need to do something about it."Rebecca sighs and massages her forehead with her fingers. " I always thought the Moon Goddess Reborn was bluff," She said. "Something to manipulate us into believing in some unknown deity. I never believed she was real, talk less of having a girl from Falme take the title.""But you should have known," Benita snapped, grunting irritably. "The plan was simple. Remove Morgana out of the picture and I win the Luna Trials.""I thought–""You though nothing Rebecca. You failed."She clicked her tongue and turned to the field."That day, at the trial of threads
Benita's POV"Arghh!" I screamed as I stepped into the dorm and smashed the vase at the wall. I thought I had everything covered but that Falme girl had ruined it all. My Plans, My dreams, My schemes. Everything I had carefully planned and put in place for years, all on the verge of being destroyed because of her!!!I had always planned for the Luna Trials. Always put on this miserable facade of being a nice charming girl with young looks to get on everyone's good books.I knew being the lowly daughter of the lowly brother of King Magnus would cut my chances of being the Mother Superior.Yes, King Magnus was the Almighty Lord of the Pack Clan, Morgana's father and Son of the great Odis and my father should be as powerful as he is, but ironically, my father was not.My father was useless. An worthless coward that was sick from birth. He was the first son of king Odis and should have been crowned king but he couldn't even handle being a man, talk less of being an Alpha.Every Alpha sh
The hall hung in silence as Queen Nianieve stepped in, her entourage of maidens and guards trailing behind. We all straightened, adjusting into a line as we bowed."At ease." She nodded, waving us a hand as she settled in the middle of the hall.Vera cleared her throat nervously and walked to her."Your Majesty," She bowed. "It is an honor. You gracing us with your presence."Queen Nianieve scoffed, her brow raised to a condescending gaze. "It is expected that a leader check on it's subject."Her voice dropped to a icy tone, "Especially when the subject becomes incompetent."Dread thickened the hall."You have shown that you are incapable of leading these girls into the Luna Trials" Queen Nianieve continued, walking away from Vera towards us. "A Witch lies within these girls and a Mother of the palace is unaware?"Vera's shuddered, pouting her lips. "The accusation is too outrageous, Mother." She said. "A Witch being in the palace is impossible.""But We have one!" Queen Nianieve bar
