DAMIEN’S POV

I had finally finished cleaning the mess in the kitchen. I checked the time. It was

almost noon, and I swore. This bitch didn’t even budge all the while I was tidying up.

Every day, I keep getting reminded of why she and I can never mix.

I was already late, and I couldn’t bother to make breakfast anymore. Thanks a lot,

princess. I headed upstairs, deciding to settle for a cup of coffee when I got to the

office, and before I left for work, I called in one of the butlers.

“Get help to tidy up a room for Miss Elena,” I ordered.

“Yes, sir,” he replied, getting to it immediately.

Heading to the living room, where she seemed very comfortable perched up on my

couch. Not making the same mistake twice, I gently shook her awake. She slowly

opened her eyes, turning to me, and it took me a gulp and some distance between

us to save me from falling into the deep green orbs of her eyes.

Maintain composure, man. She’s the devil incarnate who messed up your kitchen.

I cleared my throat, putting on my coldest expression yet. “Here’s a black card,” I

said, handing her my credit card. “Go shopping. Spend on yourself or something.

Whatever girls do.”

She eyed me suspiciously, like I told her humans were born with three heads.

“That’s quite thoughtful of you”. But I would pass. Don’t know what you’ll hold over

me later.” Turning her back on me, she went back to napping.

My jaw ticked in anger.

Why was she refusing my money? Any other woman would jump at the opportunity

to spend and splurge. Or was she faking it so I could take an interest in her? That

last thought made me laugh. Never in a million years will that happen.

I cursed under my breath for the umpteenth time as I made my way to the elevator

of the company building, accompanied by my staff. I was cranky as hell, and it

showed. My secretary, Hilda, rushed towards me with a steaming cup of coffee,

which I took from her gratefully.

“You look like a tornado married a tsunami and gave birth to you,” Hilda said,

wincing as though she was the one with the raging stomach and pounding

headache.

“My wife, that’s what happened,” I replied sarcastically.

“Ohh, you got the shorter end of the marriage stick,” she joked and quickly

muttered a sorry when she saw the scowl on my face.

We reached the top floor and headed to the board room for the first meeting of the

day. I knew I was barely functioning right now, but the company won’t run itself. I’d

have to work on a shot of caffeine and grab a heavy lunch afterwards.

By the time we were done, I could barely hear anything. I called Hilda.

“Get me a reservation at the restaurant nearby.”

“Already did, you look like shit,” she smiled as she left my office. Never have I been

grateful to her like I was this afternoon.

At the restaurant, I was having my meal on the top floor, away from prying eyes and

the paparazzi. Suddenly, I spotted Adrian walking in. He was alone, and he looked like

he was coming to meet someone. I looked away, careful enough to spy on him or

draw any attention to myself.

He made his way to the other end of the restaurant, quite far from where I sat. Dang

it. Now I won’t know what he was here for. I got up, done with my food, and headed

to the bathroom, pretending I was going to ease myself. I returned a few moments

later, going to another table that was closer to where he was. I grabbed a magazine

and pretended to peruse it, all the while listening in on what was going on.

He was talking to another man, one I didn’t recognize. So he mustn’t be a business

mogul. A friend, perhaps, I wondered. But from the heated conversation, it sounded

like a fixer. Or a lobbyist.

Stealthily, I took a picture. Leaning in a bit more, I zeroed in on their convo.

“What the hell was going on last night? I was fucking humiliated. Where did that

CCTV video comes from, huh?” Adrian spat in anger.

The other man raised his hands. “I swear, man. I have no idea.”

Adrian mulled. “And that psycho bitch of a wife bought the whole thing, hook, line

and sinker. She’s so dumb, she doesn’t realize I’ve been stealing from her the whole

time,” he cackled.

My eyes grew wide. What the fuck was I hearing? He’s the worst, a douchebag to

the core. I’d have stepped in and dealt with him for what he’s been doing, but for

killing my brother, I’d say she’s getting what’s coming to her. And I’ll make them pay

properly for what they both did to Lucas.

“And that Vance. He pulled one on me last night, too. How the fuck did he get those

sex tapes?” he said, obviously furious. “Even went as far as threatening to tell

Charlotte about it.”

“Wanna talk about it?”

“That’s why I asked us to meet. That man stepped on my toes, and he’s going to

answer to me. I want everything he has, and you’ll help me get what I want.”

The other guy smirked, very much interested. “Sure thing, what should I do?”

“Get me every incriminating evidence you have on him. If he doesn’t have one, make

one up. Just get me something I can use against him, and crush him under my feet,”

Adrian ordered.

The other dude chuckled. “Well, I’m your guy. Consider it done. But what’s in it for

Me?” he asked.

“If you can get me his empire, we’ll split it. 70:30”

That got him smiling. “Deal.”

I smiled to myself. They plan to share my empire like spoils from war.

These guys do not know half of what they’re going up against.

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   THE GAME BEGINS

ELENA'S POVI sat in the car in uncomfortable silence as we drove to work. My mind was itching with questions to ask, about what my job was and what exactly I'd be doing. I didn't have much experience, as I had just taken over the company before I was wrongfully accused and jailed. But despite all the questions in my head, I couldn't bring myself to ask. He'd already pissed me off this morning by asking me to change. I knew for sure he just wanted to control me, even to the littlest detail, but I won't let him get the best of me. The new outfit, a blue office couture I had changed into, was more fitted, more cinched than the last, but he didn't seem to notice, or mind at all.As we reached the towering building that was Vance Industries, a valet came for the car and waited for us to get off. A group of men sighted us and bowed, although some of them had their gaze on me lingering longer than usual. I heard a soft growl beside me, and I turned to see Damien staring menacingly at the me

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   TEMPTATION AND TURMOIL

DAMIEN'S POVI closed the door to my room with a start, letting out a breath I didn't realise I was holding. I had managed to keep my cool all the while I was talking to Elena, but internally, I was losing my shit, my thoughts running about 100 miles per hour. She drives me crazy and pushes my buttons, that's for sure. But no other woman has made me jittery in my entire life. Only she could make me curse in anger, yet make me want to go all out for her. It was a miracle that I refused to buy her company shares back with my money, because if she asked, I'd give in to her demands within a heartbeat. What's it with this woman?I didn't know what came over me, telling her to work for me. Maybe because I don't want her to run away. And her body.God damn. I didn't mean to look, and I knew I sounded like a creep just thinking about it. But one look at her and I was transfixed. Blown out of my mind. I know I told her that her body was even less desirable than the strippers at the club, but

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   LINES IN THE SAND

ELENA'S POVMy face blanched, devoid of all color at his statement. Even if the words weren't as menacing as they sounded, the look that came with it was even scarier. Bland and placid, yet deadly. And ice cold, it made hell freeze over. Don't think you wanna know. You may not live to tell the story. He definitely killed someone. How often did he do that? Does he pull out a Glock every time things don't go his way? I gulped, getting up as well, suddenly feeling claustrophobic being in the same room with this man. I have to get far away from here. I began walking away when a hand grabbed my arm, causing me to jump, yelping in fear. I turned to see Damien already behind me, his hand holding on to my arm. He suddenly looked menacing, not someone I should ever think of messing with."We're still talking," he said, his voice still placid and bland, but the longer I was in his immediate line of sight, the faster my heart beat from petrification.I forced myself to blink and my lips to form

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   BOILING POINT

ELENA'S POVI stepped out of the room, peering left and right to be sure that Damien was nowhere to be found. When I was sure he was nowhere in sight, I walked to the living room."Elena," I heard my name, and jumped. Jeez, this man has got to stop scaring me like this. I saw him in the kitchen, making dinner. Or more like a very early breakfast, seeing that it was just past 11 pm. I soon joined him, albeit warily, and took a seat by the kitchen counter."I'm sorry for barging in on you like that. I'm not used to having people around me," he apologized. I popped open a bottle of red wine I had seen on the island and poured myself a glass. I took a big gulp. "I bet you were ogling me, fucking me with your eyes. Let me make one thing clear: get those dirty thoughts out of your head. Get that image of me out of your head, okay? I'm not like the girls you fuck around with. Even if the world were ending and you needed to have sex to save it, I'd rather die with the rest of the world. And

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   COLD JUICE

DAMIEN'S POVI walked back to the car with Dex in tow. "This wasn't in the plan," he was ranting. "Why the fuck did you kill him?"I stopped. "I didn't like his face?" I said, throwing it out like a question. He scoffed, genuinely shocked. "What the hell is wrong with you, man? You killed him because you don't like his face. You've got to give me something better than that.""He knew the killers, and he didn't do anything to stop them. He even went ahead to help them for many years. He even killed Lucia Garner, who was innocent in all of this. All because she saw the murder happen. Had been tailing her all those times to make sure she didn't speak. And when she did... And you're telling me I shouldn't have shot him?"He backed away this time, accepting defeat. "I'm just worried about you, man," he said.I got into the car, and he joined me. "The boys will take care of him, right?" I asked him and he nodded. "Yeah, I left my car to bring them back after finishing the job.""Thank you,

  • WOUNDS OF DECEIT   SMOKE AND MIRROWS

ELENA'S POVI was bored out of my mind. And there was absolutely nothing to do. Perhaps I should have taken the credit card and gone shopping as he had wanted me to. But I wasn't letting him tame me just for a fleeting moment of pleasure. I know the kind of men he portrayed-those who threw money at everything as if it could solve everything. He could keep his black card to himself, thank you very much.Groaning visibly out of boredom, I looked around for what to do. I sensed I had been banned from the kitchen until further notice. I could tell by the side eye the butler had been giving me all day. Talk about loyalty. I almost laughed at his behavior.Well, you kind of deserve it. My stomach growled at the thought almost immediately. I know, baby, I haven't fed you in hours. Whether the butler or Damien liked it or not, I had to eat. I grabbed the leftover mac and cheese I had put in the freezer after dinner and popped it in the microwave. This man doesn't really care whether I live o
