“Why are you doing this? I have done everything you asked me to do. Please, Clara, let it go.” Xavier pleaded. Clara stared at him and slowly let out a chuckle. “You mean nothing to me, you have never meant something and you never will. I don't love you and I never will.” “My words. Do they ring a bell?” She asked with a smile as she stared at him. His eyes were clouded with tears. “Clara… “ “Five years ago you said those words to me, now I am saying them back to you. I won't stop Xavier, not until the Blackwell’s Empire falls!” ~ Being in a loveless marriage for two years was something Clara got used to. Despite it being loveless, it was going great until her husband’s first love returned out of the blue and was carrying his child. The next minute, Clara was signing divorce papers. Not only was she divorced, she was humiliated by her husband and his family. Clara left the city and returned five years later with twins, she returned as a billionaire. Now, it was her ex-husband’s turn to chase her.…
View MoreStaring at the amazing meals in her presence, Clara smiled widely feeling satisfied.
She checked the time, seeing it was almost time for her husband to get home, she giggled to herself. All she had to do was wait a few more minutes.
Hours passed and her husband hadn't arrived. She wasn't so surprised, it happens frequently.
“Ma’am, do you want me to clear the table? I don't think Mr. Miller will be arriving soon.” The butler asked staring at her with pity.
“No, it's fine. I will wait a few more minutes, you can go to bed.” She replied. He bowed before walking away.
Clara exhaled heavily as she stared at the time, it was almost midnight already. This has been going on for almost a month, and her husband has been missing dinner.
Every night, she hoped it would be different, she got her hopes up hoping he would show up.
She knows her husband doesn't love her, their marriage is based on a contract between their families. The reason she got married to him was to give him an heir but throughout the years, she was unable to conceive.
They have visited the best doctors in California, in other countries too to know what the problem was but they all confirmed nothing was wrong with them and they needed to be patient.
Clara was patient but her husband and his family weren't. They never fail to remind her about it. His mother always reminded her she was barren since she couldn't produce a child after two years of being with her son.
Despite all this, her marriage has been going well for the past two years. Everything started changing a month ago when he started missing dinner.
Clara glanced at the time one last time, she made her way out of the dining room. She was about to go up to her room when the door opened revealing him.
Immediately, all the negative thoughts she had disappeared, and she had a wide smile.
She loves her husband so much and hopes one day, he will warm up to her and reciprocate her love for him.
“Xavier, you are back.” She said with a smile as she moved closer to him. He ignored her greetings as he made his way to the stairs.
Clara ignored this and walked after him. As she got closer to him, the strong scent of alcohol hit her nostrils.
She ignored this and trailed after him till he got into his room.
He noticed she was following him, he turned to her with a questioning look.
“I… I made dinner. I can heat it… “
“Not hungry.” He replied as he took off his jacket.
Clara nodded and bit her lip as she thought of what to say, she always tried to not get him upset. She has always been like this for the past two years.
“Did… did you drink?” She finally asked.
He ignored her, he made his way to his table and picked up a brown file. He walked back to her and handed it to her.
“What is it?” She asked with a smile as she opened it.
Her smile faded immediately seeing what was in it.
“I can't keep lying to you, Clara. Kathrine returned to the city a month ago and we are back together. It's about time we get a divorce.” He said. Clara looked up at him, and slowly she laughed.
“Oh, what a great joke.” She said as she laughed. She slowly stopped laughing seeing the stern look he had on.
“Oh, you are serious.” She muttered.
It wasn't a joke, he was serious.
Immediately tears welled up in her eyes.
“Why are we getting a divorce?” She asked, her heart racing.
“Isn't it obvious? I don't love you.” He scoffed.
Clara felt her heart shatter as she stared at him in tears.
“I… I know but… “ She trailed off as she felt herself choke on her words. She had nothing to say, she couldn't think of anything.
She knows who Kathrine is, she was his ex-girlfriend and his first love. They broke up because of the contract marriage, that was part of the reasons why Xavier never loved Clara.
He blamed her for everything even though it was all their parent's idea.
“She is pregnant too.” He added and Clara felt her heart shatter. Of course, this was the main reason.
It's not her fault she is barren, her heart gets more broken every month when she sees her monthly flow. She badly wanted to get pregnant too.
“I… I... “ Clara paused as she sniffed.
“You don't have to say anything. Just sign the papers, I will send you twenty million dollars to start afresh and… “
“I don't want your money.” Clara cut him off in tears.
“And I don't want a divorce too.” She added.
“You have to sign it, Kathrine will be moving in tomorrow.” He replied. Clara stared at him in disbelief before looking down at the divorce papers.
His signature was there already. He really wants to go through with this.
Clara shook her head, she had no life without him. She can't return to her parent's house, they will murder her. They are not her biological parents, that was why it was so easy for them to get her into a contracted marriage.
“No, no, no.” She shook her head again and looked up at him.
“We can make this work out, please. Don't kick me out. She can move in here with us, I don't mind. My love is enough for both of us, please don't do this to me, Xavier.” She pleaded as she moved closer to him.
His expression was cold, it was obvious he had made up his mind and nothing could change it.
“Xavier.” She pleaded and held his arms.
“I don't want this, please. I love you.” She pleaded.
He slowly pulled away from her and took a few steps back.
“I will never change my mind no matter how much you cry.”
“Sign the papers, Clara. You have until tomorrow to leave my house.”
“Clara, please don't do this. Think about your kids.” Lucy pleaded but Clara ignored her. Clara stared at Xavier for a few seconds before looking around the room. She slowly raised a gun and pointed it at Xavier’s head.“No, mummy. Please, don't do this.” Kaylee begged and rushed to her. She held her hand and cried to her. “Mum, please.” Kaylen pleaded and Clara rolled her eyes.“Of all times to call me mum, it's this.” she scoffed and shook her head.“Move back Kaylee, you are ruining the show.” Clara groaned, moving her slightly. Clara corked the gun and everyone yelled, she looked around the room one last time. She slowly dropped the gun and nodded at Xavier. He stood up and stood next to her, and everyone was confused.“Nice acting, you did well,” Clara told him and he rolled his eyes. “What the fuck? That wasn't funny! What is wrong with both of you?” Lucy yelled as she wiped her tears.“Sorry. We just had to do that real quick to be sure of something.” Clara said.“What?”
“Did I miss something?” Clara asked with a smile but none of them gave her a response.“Come here, why are you drinking?” she asked Kaylen. He moved closer to her and she ran her hands through his hair. Kaylen exhaled heavily and closed his eyes, he didn't answer her question.“Mummy, did you really make Daddy go bankrupt?” Kaylee suddenly asked and Kaylen opened his eyes.“Yeah, did you?” Kaylen asked and Clara nodded in response with a smile.“What? Why will you do that?” Kaylen asked with a frown as he pulled away from her. “There are a lot of things you don't understand, It's for the best,” she replied.“What?” Bryan muttered confused. What she said made no sense.Clara smiled at them as they stared at her in disbelief, She moved closer to the table filled with drinks and grabbed a bottle of wine then handed it to Kaylen.“You should drink a lot of that, you will need it,” she said. He stared at her confused as he took it.“Huh?” he muttered.“Someone is going to die tonight and
It's the twins’ birthday the next day, everyone was excited about it but the twins weren't. They weren't happy that their mother wasn't in the picture anymore. The last day they saw or heard from her was the day Xavier pointed a gun at her. Surprisingly, Kathrine and Xavier were getting along. Everyone was confused, no one had an idea of what was going on. Everything seemed normal and perfect until Xavier got the most heartbreaking news. “How is this possible? Tell me this is a joke.” Carl said as he paced the living room. Xavier was seated on the couch with his face buried in his hands.“Xavier,” Carl called sternly and he looked up at him.“It's a joke, right? This isn't serious,” he said and Xavier shook his head slightly.“It's not. It's real, we lost everything,” he replied and fell back on the couch.“Fuck, I warned you man. I did!” Carl raised his voice. The twins walked into the living room with Sarah and wondered what was going on. They just got home from school.“What i
NIGHTCarl, Xavier, Sarah, and the twins were seated in the living room talking about their birthdays. The twins were excited and looking forward to it, they were sure it would be different this time, as their mother was around. It would be the best birthday ever! The door to the living room suddenly opened revealing Clara, they were all surprised by her presence. “You can't just come here anytime you want, you are not welcome here.” Xavier said but she ignored him and headed towards his study.“I need to talk to you.” she yelled. Xavier sighed and shook his head.“Why isn't she welcomed here?” Kaylen asked his father.“Yeah, why isn't she welcomed here?” Kaylee also asked. Xavier ignored their questions and headed toward his study. Kaylee turned to Carl who was seated next to her and he smiled at her.“Why don't you like our mum?” Kaylee asked him and he chuckled.“Oh, I like Clara. I don't just trust her.” He replied.“Because she flipped you over her shoulder?” Kaylen teased an
“I think it is too early to go shopping, right?” Clara asked as she trailed behind Lucy in the baby store.“No.” Lucy replied without turning to her.“Why do I have to help then?” Clara asked and Lucy turned to her.“Because you offered to.”“I thought you wouldn't accept it, you don't like me.” Clara replied and Lucy nodded.“That is true but anything for my baby. Also, I was thinking if I hang out with you, I might have twins too.” She said and Clara rolled her eyes.“It doesn't work that way.”“I don't care.” Lucy replied and continued shopping.“Do you know who runs the organization now?” She asked out of the blue and Clara shook her head in response.“Not yet.”“Xavier said you are close.”“Yes.” “Do you have any idea who it might be?” “Yes.” Clara replied and Lucy turned to her.“Really? Who is it?” She asked, raising her brows.“None of your business.” Clara replied with a smile and she scoffed before looking away. They kept shopping in silence till Lucy broke it. “The twin'
“Well, you need a very long list.” Xavier replied and Bryan’s eyes widened.“What?” He asked and Kaylen smiled at him.“Ignore it.” He told him.“I know, the earlier you start the better, get on with it.” Clara replied.“What? Now?” He asked.“Yes, I will wait.” Clara replied and walked fully into the living room.“I know my way around, I once lived here before you kicked me out to die.” Clara yelled as she made her way into the kitchen. Xavier sighed and shook his head before walking towards the study. The twins chuckled and headed to the kitchen with Bryan. They met Clara going through the fridge with a smile.“Oh, I like that.” She said as she found a bowl of ice cream, she carried it out with a smile. She looked around and noticed there weren't so many maids in the house. “Why aren't there any maids here?” Clara asked as she dropped the bowl on the counter.“Dad got rid of a lot, he said we should be careful.” Kaylen replied and she nodded. She grabbed a little bowl and heade
