POV: CHELSEA

Daniel thought I was preparing to run away from him. He had no idea I was preparing to survive without him.

I stood behind the double-paned security glass of the townhouse, looking down at his furious face on the intercom monitor. The evening air was cool, but sweat glistened on his forehead, his jaw clenching as he waited for an answer that made sense in his narrow, selfish world.

"I asked you a question, Chelsea!" Daniel shouted, slamming his palm against the iron gate again. "Tons of grain? Industrial water purifiers? Solar grids? What kind of ridiculous, manic breakdown are you having? Is this your revenge because I brought Vicky to the city?!"

"Our marriage is over, Daniel," I said, my voice smooth, steady, and entirely devoid of emotion. "What I buy, how I spend my money, and where I put my assets is no longer any of your concern. Leave my property before my security team physically removes you."

"Are you insane?!" he barked, throwing his hands up in utter disbelief. "You're destroying our family over pure jealousy! Vicky is my colleague! She came here to help us expand the regional acquisition, and you're treating her like an enemy! You're freezing my cards, locking me out of the company, and throwing away millions on doomsday junk just to get back at me!"

I almost laughed. A cold, bitter sound almost escaped my lips, but I caught it.

Jealousy. He genuinely thought this was about another woman in a soft, ordinary drama. He couldn't begin to comprehend that I had seen his true face under a pitch-black sky, that I had felt his boot press into my chest while Vicky stood beside him, completely dry, watching me sink into a grave of black floodwater.

"Vicky is not your colleague, Daniel," I said softly, leaning into the microphone. "And whatever happens next in this world, you will never have control over my life, my wealth, or my daughter ever again. Goodnight."

I pressed the button, cutting off the intercom feed. Outside, I watched through the camera as the two armed guards stepped forward, firmly guiding a shouting, red-faced Daniel down the driveway until he had no choice but to stumble into the dark street.

An hour later, I left the townhouse with Lily under the care of my trusted private security detail and drove straight out of Manhattan toward the warehouse complex in upstate New York.

The facility sat high on a heavily wooded ridge, elevated far above the floodlines that would eventually swallow the valleys below. The night air was crisp, smelling of pine and damp earth.

As my Lamborghinipulled through the reinforced iron gates, heavy headlights illuminated the loading docks. A massive flatbed truck was already idling under the floodlights.

Her first major delivery had arrived: commercial-grade industrial water-filtration equipment.

I stepped out onto the concrete apron, wrapping my coat tightly around myself as I watched the warehouse crew operate the forklifts. Massive wooden crates containing high-capacity reverse-osmosis units, UV sterilization towers, and heavy-duty water pumps were carefully lifted off the flatbed and wheeled into the cavernous interior.

Clean water.

In the first two weeks of the deluge, municipal water plants would be flooded with sewage, oil, and chemical runoff. Within twenty-one days, a single gallon of untainted drinking water would buy a stack of gold bars or a box of ammunition. Money would become useless paper, but this equipment would mean life.

"Get those units secured in Sector B," I instructed the warehouse manager, a quiet former military logistician named Jules  whom Smith had vetted personally. "I want the backup diesel generators wired to these pumps by tomorrow evening, and double the perimeter guard roster starting tonight."

Jules nodded without asking a single foolish question. "Understood, Mrs. Bennett. Reinforcements for the outer chain-link fence arrive at 0800."

By midnight, the warehouse was quiet, save for the low, rhythmic hum of the perimeter security grid.

I sat at a wooden desk in the facility’s upper office, overlooking the floor where rows of sealed crates were already beginning to stack up. On the desk lay a blank, leather-bound journal.

I looked at the digital clock on my tablet.

June 23, 2026.

Exactly 150 days remained.

Unscrewing my pen, I pressed the nib against the crisp white paper and wrote the date of the apocalypse across the very first page in bold, black ink: NOVEMBER 20, 2026.

A soft rustle of footsteps sounded near the doorway. I turned to see Lily standing there in her fleece pajamas, holding a crumpled piece of drawing paper tightly in her small hands.

"Lily? Sweetheart, why aren't you sleeping?" I asked gently, setting my pen down.

She walked over silently, her big eyes dark and heavy, and laid the paper flat on the desk right beside my journal.

It was a drawing done in crayon, a crude, terrifying picture from her memory of our previous life. The black water, the churning waves, the tiny yellow boat tipping on its side. In the center stood Daniel, holding a smaller version of Lily, his boot pushed out toward a figure struggling in the water.

But as I looked closer, my breath hitched in my throat.

Standing directly behind Daniel on the deck was not just Vicky Lee.

Drawn in dark, heavy charcoal pencil was a second figure, a tall, broad-shouldered man wearing a strange, structured tactical vest, his face obscured by shaded lines, holding a device in his hand.

I stared at the unfamiliar figure, my blood running cold as I looked up at my six-year-old daughter.

“Lily…” I whispered, my voice trembling. “Who is that?”

POV: VICKY Daniel had promised me a future built on Chelsea’s wealth, but now his wife was threatening to destroy everything we had planned. The floor-to-ceiling windows of the hotel suite overlooked the glittering skyline of Manhattan, but the luxury surrounding us felt thin, brittle, and ready to snap. Daniel paced back and forth across the Persian rug like a caged animal, his phone pressed tightly to his ear, his knuckles white with tension."Pick up, Chelsea. Pick up the damn phone," he muttered under his breath, his voice laced with a mixture of raw panic and rising fury. He lowered the phone, stared at the screen, and cursed loudly before throwing it onto the velvet sofa. "She blocked my secondary line. She actually blocked it!"I sat on the plush leather armchair, nursing a glass of sparkling water, keeping my face perfectly composed. I knew better than to interrupt him when he was like this. For three years, I had learned the delicate art of managing Daniel Bennett, playing t

POV: CHELSEAMoney would become worthless when the world ended, but clean water could mean the difference between life and death.By three in the morning, the warehouse floor was quiet. Floodlights hung from the steel rafters, casting long, stark shadows across the concrete bay. I stood on the upper catwalk, leaning against the cold iron railing as I looked down at the initial shipment of commercial water filtration towers, industrial reverse-osmosis units, and sealed high-capacity storage tanks. They were safely stacked in Sector A, wrapped in heavy tarpaulins, looking like silent monoliths in the dark.I looked down at the tablet in my hands. Ordering tens of millions of dollars worth of survival gear in a single week was a guaranteed way to attract federal scrutiny or black-market predators. I couldn't afford either. To stay beneath the radar, I had designed a phased, decentralized procurement schedule spread across seventy-eight distinct supply chains. Every contract was routed t

POV: CHELSEA Daniel had stolen millions from my company, but the money was only the beginning of what he had hidden from me.Morning light filtered through the tinted glass of Smith’s high-security law office on Wall Street. On the marble table between us sat three thick black binders, filled with forensic financial statements that had taken his team all night to compile."Every single one of these transfers came from accounts you granted him sign-off authority on three years ago," Smith said, tapping a red line on the top sheet. "About thirty percent went to legitimate operational suppliers, freight, regional office leases, standard payroll. But the remaining seventy percent? Transferred out in lump sums of two to three million dollars to paper companies with no physical offices, no listed employees, and zero tax filings."I stared at the figures, my expression unreadable. "Aegis Strategic.""And four other shadow entities linked to it," Smith confirmed, his face grim. "He was metic

POV: CHELSEA My daughter had drawn a stranger standing behind my husband on the day he murdered me, and I was determined to discover who he was.The quiet office inside the warehouse felt instantly colder. I pulled Lily onto my lap, wrapping my arms around her small, trembling frame as I pulled the crayon drawing closer under the harsh desk lamp. The heavy charcoal shape loomed over Daniel on the boat's deck, broad shoulders, a sharp, structured vest, and a strange emblem scratched near his shoulder."Lily," I said gently, keeping my voice as calm as possible so I wouldn't frighten her. "Tell Mommy about this man. Did you hear him say anything before... before I fell into the water?"Lily stared at the black lines on the paper, her tiny fingers twisting the hem of her pajama top."He was standing right next to Daddy when they loaded the big silver boxes onto the boat," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "Daddy looked scared of him, Mommy. The man had a dark coat on and he looke

POV: CHELSEA I had one hundred and fifty days to prepare for the end of the world, and I was not going to waste a single hour. The numbers burned into my mind like raw iron pressed against skin. November 20. Exactly five months before the sky collapsed and torrential rain submerged the entire Eastern Seaboard under dark, suffocating water.Staring at the laptop screen in Smith’s private office, I watched the red flags bloom across the financial ledger. Daniel hadn't just been cheating on me; he and Vicky had been systematically bleeding my inheritance dry, funneling over forty million dollars into offshore accounts registered in the Cayman Islands. He thought he was setting up a quiet nest egg for his future with her. In reality, he was stealing paper money that would become utterly worthless in a few short months."Smith," I said, my voice cold and smooth. "Execute an emergency asset freeze on all joint accounts immediately. File an ex parte injunction against Daniel for corporate e
