CHAPTER SEVEN.

AMARACHI'S POV.

“Amarachi, so this is what you have been up to."

I sighed. I don't know why my mum was making it a big deal. Ade didn't kiss me. I know he would have kissed me if she didn't interrupt it.

“I am very disappointed in you." She said. “After all my training, you still had the effrontery to invite a boy to my house. And you had him in your room!" She continued.

“Do you want to get pregnant at 17?!" She asked.

“I have always told you to stay away from boys until you are ready for marriage."

“Who is that boy? And what have you guys been doing under my nose? Is he your boyfriend? Have you guys had sex?-"

“-start answering the questions o. Don't even try to lie"

I stared at my mum in surprise. The fact that she thinks I'm sleeping around with someone I barely know is annoying. She thinks so low of me.

“Mum. Ade is just my friend. I invited him because I wanted company and It's really shitty of you to think that I am sleeping with him-"

“-you know, I don't get why I can't have male friends like every one of my fellow girls. Why is my life so different? Sometimes I just wish you died instead of my father."

I immediately regretted saying that but I couldn't take it back now.

My mom just kept quiet. Her face was expressionless.

“Well, I wished I never met your father and I wished I never gave birth to an ungrateful daughter like you."

Mom's words hurt me so much but I know she was just saying all that because she's hurt.

“Mom, what really happened to my father?"

I know he died. But how did he die? I want to know everything.

I don't know why I asked her. I just wanted closure. I have lived seventeen years of my life without a father figure. Even without an uncle. My mother made sure I went to a girls-only school just to keep me away from boys. I just want to know why she's so bent on doing all that.

“Your father died even before you died. I don't know what other story you want to hear. If you need any other story, go to your father's grave and ask him! Ungrateful child!" She scowled.

“And by the way, you are very much grounded. You would not go to such for a week. I'd get a tutor for you." She said with finality.

“Mum!! You can't do that. That is really unfair. I don't need a tutor." I whined.

“If you keep fussing, I would change my mind and have you transferred to an only-girls school. Don't even try me."

She stood up and looked at me. “You are starting tutorials tomorrow. If you do not act like a good child, I would have to seize your phone."

“Amarachi, I want you to understand that I am doing all these for your good. Boys are just distractions. Focus on your education for now. You are still very young. Anything else should wait." She said and left the room.

“She didn't even close the door. Tch." I muttered to myself. I am really going to miss school.

School or Ade?

I think I would miss both. I giggled.

I got a notification from my phone and I saw it was a message from Ade.

Fine Boy.🥺

What's up??!

2:30 pm.

Fine Boy.🥺

I'm really sorry, Amara. I shouldn't have tried to kiss you.

2:32 pm.

Fine Boy.🥺

Are you okay?

2:35 pm.

I sighed and dropped my phone on the bed. I thought he was finally beginning to like me but if he is apologising then that means he doesn't like me and it was just the heat of the moment.

My phone buzzed and interrupted my thoughts. I picked it up again and saw a message from an unknown number.

+2348065498000

Bitch! Stay away from Ade!! I wouldn't warn you again!

2:50 pm

Weird. Is this some sort of prank or what?

Deciding to pay no attention to the weird text I just got, I went to the bathroom to freshen up and put on very comfortable house wear.

I walked to the kitchen to get food. Walking back to my room, I heard muffled voices coming from my mother's room.

There's no harm in eavesdropping right?

I wouldn't even call it eavesdropping. I just trying to satisfy my curiosity so I put my ear really close to the door.

“Why don't you just tell her the truth?"

I wonder what they could be talking about.

“She would hate me if I tell her. I don't want her to know anything for now. I would tell her when the time is right."

I could recognise that voice anywhere. It was my mom's voice. What is she hiding from me? I know she had been acting really Weird for a long time, even before we changed the house.

“Hmm. I hope it won't be too late. I have told you my own o." The unfamiliar voice said.

“And you have to stop acting weird Bisola. Stop it! You are slowly pushing her away from you. Why don't you allow her to invite her male friends over to the house?" The voice continued.

“I know the style of my parenting skill is different but I know what is best for my daughter. Boys are big distractions. I want her to stay away from them!" My mom said with finality.

“Bisola. A word they say is enough for the wise. I know you have passed through so much when you were still a teenager and you do not want the same things to happen to your daughter-"

“-draw your daughter close. You should be her best friend and confidant."

I scoffed. My mother can never change.

I think they realised I was eavesdropping because they stopped talking after a while.

I tiptoed to my room so I wouldn't get caught. But there was one question lingering on my mind.

What happened to my mother when she was still a teenager?

A/N
