AMARACHI

"This is the fifth school you're rejecting today." my mum said. She looked really frustrated and stressed. My mum is a single parent. My Dad died when I was still a little child. We just recently relocated from our former house so I had to change school.

We lived in the rural part of Lagos State and I was looking for the best school around the house. I didn't want a school far from home. I had already written down the list of schools in the area and the next school on the list was, "CROWNSTAR HIGHSCHOOL", the school sounds interesting though.

"I think we should go back home and come back tomorrow because I'm really exhausted." my mom began, a tired look on her face. I sighed and said "the next school on the list sounds attractive, I think I'd like it. Let's just check it out and I don't like it, we'd continue tomorrow." I said to my mom. She hesitated for a while but she agreed.

CROWNSTAR HIGHSCHOOL really looks as attractive as the name. The environment was really neat and tidy. The structure was really nice. "Mum, I think I like the school, what do you think?" My mum looked impressed, she said "Amarachi, it looks really nice, let's go to the principal's office. I'd be happy if you can start today." My mum must really be joking, I didn't come prepared for my first day at school, heck! I didn't even bring a book. I frowned as I said to my mum " mummy you know that I did not come fully prepared. Let's just go and pay the school fees and I'd start tomorrow."

My mum didn't look convinced. "Amarachi we can get everything you need from the school's book shop. You're starting today and that's final." I was about to reply to her when a man approached us and my mum asked him to show us the principal's office.

After the payment of my school fees, my mum left. The principal told me I would be given the school's uniform before the end of the day. She asked a girl, to take me to the class. On our way to the class, I found out that we were in the same class, SS3 ART. She looked really nice and pretty.

When we got to the class, the teacher asked me to introduce myself. I am not a social butterfly but then I am not shy either. I stood in front of the class and said "My name is Amarachi Edwards, but you can call me Amara. It's so nice to meet you all and I hope we get along." The stare from everyone in the class was getting creepy. I suddenly started to feel nervous.

"Hi Amarachi, I'm your literature teacher. My name is Miss Ada. Welcome to Crownstar highschool." I smiled at her. "So who doesn't have a seat partner? A girl raised her hands and Miss Ada asked me to seat with her. She started teaching and that was when I remembered that I didn't collect the pen my mum bought. I didn't want to ask anyone for a spare pen but then it was my first day at school and I did not want to start skipping notes. I asked the guy at my front for a spare pen but he didn't have any one. The girl beside him smiled and gave me a pen, I thanked her and started writing.

"This is a new term, and I'm hoping we all dropped our bad behaviors last term. Make sure the assignment I gave you all gets to me before the end of today, class rep." Miss Ada said as she walked out of the class. I noticed the guy at the front went outside and after some minutes the "nice" girl that gave me her pen rudely collected her pen and she said "How would anyone come to school without a pen?" I was really shocked that I did not know what to say. Her friends laughed and one of them said "Sarah, you're so mean o."

So the mean girl's name is Sarah. I don't like her already. Why is she acting like I begged her for the pen?

I decided to ignore the Sarah girl and I noticed that a girl was staring at me, I smiled at her and she smiled back.

Oh well, not everyone is a ride bitch like aunty Sarah. I thought to myself.

I stood up and walked over to the girl that smiled at me. She looks very beautiful. Her beautiful brown hair complemented her shiny brow skin.

"My name is Christabel Daniels, you look very pretty. I love your hair." "A beautiful name for a beautiful girl." I said to her. She giggled. "You look more beautiful when you smile." " Aww, thank you. What happened with you and Sarah?" Christalbel said. "She was just being a bitch. Is she always like that?" Christabel chuckled and said, " did you by any chance talk to her boyfriend or something? She can be really jealous when it comes to him."

Lol, because of ordinary boy. Wonders shall never end. The boy isn't even my type.

"Well she just sounds insecure to me." I said to Christabel. "Enough talk about Sarah let me show you around the school" Christabel said. "Sounds like fun to me." Amarachi smiled and followed Christabel outside the classroom.
