Legacy

After the funeral I stayed a few days in Bandung. My late husband's family home. The mother-in-law who loves me and the brothers and sister-in-law who love me so much were tried to entertaint me. None of them ever left me alone. There was always someone who stood by and comforted me from the midst of grief.

It was bitter, though. I am, Gendis Pravita Chua, must be a widow at 27 years of age. Single-handedly raised a child in my womb. Yes fearless. I can't stand it.

As I looked at the photo of my hubby on  the seventh day of his departure, a sister-in-law knocked at my room door and called me.

"Vita, Mom call you. She is waiting in the living room." She said.

After I answered her call, I hurried to put on my veil and headed for the living room.

It wasn't just my mom-in-law there. My brothers and sister-in-law's  are with her. There are Fitri, Firman and Fauzi. I approached them and chose to sit next to my mother-in-law.

"Vita, have you eaten my love?" Asked her as she stroked the back of my hand.

I nodded, commenting on a smile.

"We have something to talk to you about. About legacy." Firman said.

I looked at them one by one. Legacy? What does that mean?

"Look, Vit. Before your parents died. Due to an accident, they both left something in your husband's hands. With the message not to tell you as long as Farhan can take care of you and fulfill your parents' wishes." Firman explains.

I frowned more and more. Don't know what he's talking about. I know my parents were furious when I chose to convert to Islam when I married my husband. Although I still carry the Chua surname, they told me that I was unlisted as family anymore.

"Honey, your mom and dad left behind a large company that your husband has been secretly running with. Now that your husband is gone. Automatically the company returned to you as its owner. Firman will remain. To assist you if there is still a need." My mother-in-law carefully explained.

"Yes, Vita. You are now the CEO of Pravinhaya Corporation. There are three branches of your company. Your parents don't want it falling into the hands of their extended family. As an only child, you are now obligated to take care of everything." Firman explains even longer.

I was shocked to find out. Never thought my parents would leave something so extraordinary. No wonder Farhan has used to spoil me for this in the last year. Including Pajero's latest edition car. Every time I ask him where he gets his money, it says he's on a project. I just believe it's because my husband is smart enough to find opportunities with his business associates.

Fitri was handing over a pile of binders that had been sitting on her lap for a while. "It's all yours, Vit."

I accept. I'll open each one of them while my brain spins too fast thinking to take the next step.

"Mom, Firman, Fitri, Fauzi, honestly I'm still surprised to accept all of this. It's beyond me. But really thank you for everything. I hope you all keep helping me with this company."  I said as I gazed at them one by one and clasped my palms against my chest.

From the files I read that Fitri occupies a position as chief of the account that I think is related with her scientific and experiential capacity. While Firman and Fauzi served as directors of  Bandung and Surabaya branches. While my late husband was operated the main company in Jakarta.

I believe they can help me run this legacy company. I know well their genuine attitude. They also ungreedy people. Because their mother raised them so well. Gave them the best education after all.
