Chapter Four

ZACHARY

The atmosphere felt weird and my wolf felt it too,he was extremely restless and moody which wasn't a good thing as my mood was also affected. I felt something was wrong and my thought suddenly went to Leah,was she hurt or attacked? I was shocked I thought about her safety first,I shaked it off am an Alpha,it's in my blood to care,I suddenly heard running footsteps and heated shouting, I was suddenly in mattack and defense mode and turned to the direction and saw Liam looking extremely pissed,I stepped in front of him and asked what was the problem.

" Alpha Zachary we've been invaded by a banished member of our pack!"

  Liam was already in defense mode,hence the title he called me. I processed this information with an expression on my face, wondering who would be so sucidial to attack the den after he was banished,I racked my brain and suddenly I let out an uproar growl and transformed to my wolf immediately and ran to the Den's center.

Devon Killian,a twenty- eight year old male was banished from the Den for killing a human,he broke a sacred rule and was immediately banished from the Den and was to never step foot again,yet he stood her in his brown wolf snarling at me with such contempt. I gave a sign that he should change and we should talk,we both changed to our human form,still growling at each other and then suddenly I boomed in my Alpha voice.

 " Devon Killian you're no longer a member of the Den,and I the alpha demands you go back from whatever hellhole you crawled out from, right this minute or you won't like the consequences!!".

  He chuckled at me and eyed me disdainfully and challenged me to an open brawl or he'll wreck more havoc on every one in the Den. The banished murderer just challenged me to a duel in exchange for peace and I was so ready for him.

" I accept your challenge, and I'll add more terms, that should you on any grounds step a foot here, you'll be executed immediately!"

 He accepted the term and immediately before I could gain a grip slashed across my cheeks with his claws and pushed me hard to the ground, having little time to recover, he delivered a swift kick to my abdomen,I groaned in pains as I immediately and swiftly stoop up and brought out my claw and slashed his thighs and threw an upper kick to his jaw, sending him flying back and crashed into a bush nearby. He stood up almost immediately and charged towards me with blood dripping from his mouth and punched me in the face and grabbed my face and menacingly whisped to me.

 " You're a pathetic Alpha without a mate, you're worthless and will never be loved"

    The moment he mentioned my mate,I immediately transformed and my eyes shone silver and I was filled with such my rage and punched him so hard in the guts he was instantly unconscious and I transformed back and bekoned to Liam to carry him and make sure when he is conscious,he should be taken to the ends of the earth and that if he steps feet in the Den, he'll be deliciously slaughtered. I touched my face and felt a sting and some blood,I turned looked down at Devon one more time and stormed down to the Den's clinic.

  TEN MINUTES LATER

 I was washing up in the bathroom and getting flashbacks of threats I get from intruders like that,I was also worried about finding my mate and Devon's words found it's way to my head when he said I was worthless without a mate. I signed and strolled to my wardrobe to find an outfit,the door bell suddenly rang and I heard Olivia shouting for me to open up the door,I walked over and opened the door wondering what she was doing here.

" Hello Zachary, it's been quite a while heard you've been a busy alpha" she grinned.

 I've known Olivia and Liam for a very long time, there were the closest to me. Olivia was always teasing and jovial with me and Liam was always super serious,I loved them both, but lately I've been very busy to spend time with my friends.

 " Olivia, What brings you here and aren't you supposed to be organizing a defense class today?"

" Zach I just stopped by to say hi. I heard about the ruckus with Devon,I figured I should check up on you so there's no need to get all bossy with me I can leave if you want me to"

" It's not like that, you just happened to come at the wrong time and the matter whmith Devon is settled,if he had half a brain be wouldn't try it again. And besides I was about to take a nap and regroup".

" Alright, I'll be going and maybe I'll check up later,Bye".

  She was offended by me,I knew it by the tone she suddenly used and I felt bad - but she wouldn't understand what it means to be Alpha,with all the responsibilities and to make matters worse I didn't have a mate,it was frustrating and making me angry unnecessarily.

I stepped into the school's gym the next day and headed to the table tennis court,I sighted Leah standing next to the basketball court with her friend, Amelia. She looked beautiful,with her hair packed up with her baby blue shirt and baggy jeans. I shaked my head from the thought of her and shook hands with most of the tennis players and settled in to watch, today was rehearsals and almost everyone at school was in gym currently,I waited for Liam too he was to bring me report about the Devon situation. The volleyball court were aggressively rehearsing today,I guessed after their deafeat with a local team in the neighboring school it was obvious they needed to put more effort than before. My phone beeped and just as I was about checkimg my pocket to bring out, I saw a split second as the volleyball knocked out Leah right in the forehead and she fell unconscious immediately. I rushed with speed to her side immediately as students gather,Amelia was so worried as we both carried her to the school's infirmary immediately. The school nurse assured us she'll be fine and awake in no time and suggested that I get a permit slip from the principal's office so she can go home as she wasn't in a good state to continue classes.

 I was rushing to the principal's office when I bumped into Olivia and Liam, apparently they were both looking for me. I explained to them the situation on ground and that I was going to accompany her home and make sure she's safe and well. I noticed Olivia twisted face and assumed she was worried also for Leah, Liam just told me he'll update me later and sent his regards to Leah and they both left with Olivia still glancing at me in a weird expression. I got the permit slip,met up with Amelia and got Leah's bag and went to the clinic and saw her sitting up looking dazed,I immediately remembered her wounded in the woods and suddenly felt bad,I approached her gently and asked her if she was alright to stand,she just kept staring at me like she was trying to process everything.

Amelia and I helped her into my Jeep,as I drove towards her house,I tried to engage her in a conversation.

" Leah,it's me Zachary and am taking you home you fell unconscious at the volleyball court in school"

" Zachary??....why are you taking me home,I thought you hated me"

" Oh good, you're awake and conscious that's good….I don't hate you,I was just avoiding you".

"Oh great, that makes me feel better…. she rolled her eyes".

  I used the directions Amelia gave me and parked in front of a quaint looking house and I knew it was her place. She came down and grabbed her bag and threw a quick 'thank you' and marched down her home. I switched the ignition off and jumped down my Jeep and ran to her .

" Leah wait! Please hold on and let me explain, at least I owe you an explanation".

 She halted immediately and turned back to look at me strangely and said…. " Will you give me answeres to all my questions and stop ignoring me even in school?"

" I'll try my best and give you answers, I can't promise you every information"

She gestured me to sit on her porch and went in, probably to change and drop her bag pack. I sat on the stairs of her porch and fiddled with my rope leather bracelet. Few minutes later she stepped out with two glasses of lemonade and sandwiches,she placed the tray gently between us and offered me a sandwich, which I collected and muttered a 'thank you' to her as I stared into her eyes, she suddenly blushed and tucked her hair behind her ears. I cleared my throat and ate the sandwich, which was very nice.

" This is delicious,Leah…is it chicken strips or ham?"

" Nah,it's just plain beef, but thank you for the food review" she giggled.

" Anyways, what's your questions,ask me away"

"You're a werewolf, aren't you?"

I stared at her and chuckled at her serious facial expressions, that had to be her first question.

" Yes Leah Lance,Am a werewolf and not just a werewolf, am an Alpha too"

She blushed and tucked her hair again,I assume she thought I didn't know her full name.

" Are you mated? And why ignore me,what if I had told everyone that you were a werewolf?"

" Firstly, you wouldn't have …you're curious as cat, Leah , and nobody would believe you without concrete proof. Secondly,am not mated as am yet to find my mate, Satisfied??"

" Do you talk to your wolf??"

" Yes I do"

She nodded and asked if I wanted a refill of my lemonade,I said no and told her I had to go as it was getting late. She stood up and hugged me surprisingly and then whispered a thank you to me. Still shocked from the hug,I awkwardly patted her back and brushed her hair.

" Thank you Zachary, for today and clearing things up for me…see it wasn't so hard to do". I chuckled and brushed her cheeks unintentionally and tapped her forehead, stepped off the porch and headed to my Jeep. I started the engine of my vehicle and turned to see her packing up the lunch utensils we used and she headed inside while balancing it on her thighs,I smiled with content and zoomed off feeling incredibly happy.
