INICIAR SESIÓNRiya's Pov
My grip tightened on the throttle. With a grunt that tore through my chest, I yanked both handlebars and quickly slammed a palm and a foot down to force the bike back upright. Pain shot through me, but it was worth it.
The tires screamed as I twisted the accelerator, causing the rubber to violently bite on the cobblestones.
The bike roared, jerking sideways in a wild drift. My back tire clipped the bumper of the car, sending flaring sparks.
My knee scraped asphalt, peeling off the fabric, and my skin raw, but I held steady. Barely.
Breath tore out of me. My body shook, and my muscles screamed.
That said… I hadn’t actually accomplished anything. Not when the estate’s massive black gates loomed ahead, having completely shut down the steel tight.
And behind me? Boots pounded and suits in black were already storming after me.
I ignored them. darting my eyes left and right. Think. Think! I shoved my bleeding hand into the belt’s pockets, fumbling, ransacking, praying for something… an explosive, a charge, anything to blast through the gate. My fingers scraped plastic, metal, smooth edges I didn’t recognize…
And then…
A low groan.
The gate.
The massive black slabs shuddered, then began to slowly slide open.
I didn’t waste time wondering who or why. Whoever opened it had just saved my life, or set me up for something worse. Either way, it was my only shot.
I revved hard, as blood continued to roam slick on the throttle, and launched forward.
The bike burst through the opening with a shriek of tires, spitting dust as I skidded onto the asphalt.
The wide road opened my eyes, and a wild, ragged, and shaky laugh bubbled out.
Relief washed over me, but it didn’t last.
Because the screech followed.
Not mine.
Theirs.
I risked a glance at the cracked side mirror, and I caught a glimpse of headlights swarming just behind me. One car. Two. No… three. All black. All fast. And all speeding right at me.
Of course. Kelvin wasn’t about to let me go that easily.
“Persistent bastard,” I muttered, muffling my voice under the helmet.
My hands tightened on the bars, and my veins continued to pulse with adrenaline.
“BAMBOLINA!”
The shout tore through the night so loud it made me flinch inside the helmet.
My brows furrowed. “What the…”
A glance at the other mirror gave me my answer. Kelvin.
Hanging halfway out of the passenger window of the lead car, gripping the roof with one hand, and clenching a microphone using the other.
His voice screeched through an external speaker, booming across the ever-empty highway until it rang in my skull.
I rolled my eyes so hard it almost hurt. “Seriously?” I hissed. “What is this, a confession?”
Kelvin leaned out further, as his hair continued to whip in the wind, with a twisted expression on his face.
Honestly, if I didn’t hate him so much, I’d almost think he loved me.
Almost.
“Don’t you want to know how your mother disappeared!…? Eh, Bambolina!?”
His voice slithered out of the loudspeaker, and even over the roar of the bike and the rush of night wind, it crawled under my skin.
“I can tell you everything…” His words were jagged, almost gleeful. “I can even tell you things about your father you wouldn’t believe… I can…”
I didn’t let him finish. My fingers dove into the belt, finding the last six round canisters. With a flick and a press, they hissed awake in my palms, as I hurled them back over my shoulder.
Pop-pop.
The little bombs cracked open, belching thick smoke across the asphalt. The headlights behind me became vague, predatory shapes, lost in a swirling gray cloud.
I yanked the throttle hard, making the bike leap forward, as the engine continued to scream really hard.
But my vision blurred. His words had cut deep, making those hot and heavy tears sting my eyes inside the helmet. How can one be so cruel?
I clenched my jaw and bit down on my lower lip until I tasted blood, forcing my trembling hands to tighten around the grips until they creaked as my fingers locked harder.
And then… A soft crackle buzzed from inside my helmet, followed by his voice.
“Riya… Riya… are you there?”
The voice was softer. Familiar.
“Mateo?” My eyes flew wide. The world around me blurred in and out. “Heavens… is that you? Is…”
“Where are you?”
A shaky laugh tumbled out of me, equal parts relief and disbelief. “It’s really you…” My lips tugged into a smile under the visor.
“Where are you right now?”
“I’m on my way to… uh…” My voice cracked with exhaustion. “What was it again…? I’m going to the place you asked me to meet you.”
Silence.
“Mateo?” I blinked, forcing my eyes back to the road. “Are… you still there?”
“I never asked you to meet me anywhere, Riya.”
I blinked again and the world tilted a little. “Sorry… come again?”
My smirk faltered. “That’s… a joke, right?”
My voice cracked. “You said to meet you somewhere in Ampang City…”
“I never asked you to meet me anywhere... If I did…, I wouldn’t be calling right now.”
My heart lurched. “But you did arrange the gadgets, the bike, and the key… didn’t you?”
“That was all me, yes.”
My breath stuttered, and I swallowed hard, trying to steady it. “So then… if you weren’t the one who left that note…” My eyes narrowed against the dark highway rushing toward me. “…who did?”
“Riya… that should be the least of your worries right now.”
“I know, I know,” I whispered, biting back the panic clawing its way up my throat. “So… where do I meet you?”
A pause. Just a thick and heavy static.
“Come to the—”
The rest was obliterated.
A violent metallic screech ripped through my ears. It made me wince so hard my eyes shut for half a heartbeat.
My teeth clamped down until pain shot through my jaw, and I bit my lip raw, tasting coppery and hot blood on my tongue.
Instinctively, I unlatched the buckle beneath my chin with one shaking hand, ripping the helmet strap loose.
The air slammed against my face as I flung the helmet aside, gasping, blinking against the sting in my eyes.
The bike swerved. My other hand flew to the opposite handlebar, jerking it hard to steady the wobbling beast. My pulse was a hammer against my ribs as I was about to speed my way past a T-junction on a red traffic light.
I turned harder on the throttle, hoping to shoot through…
And then the night exploded.
A blinding white light flooded my vision from the right, so bright it seared through my skull with a deafening and bellowing horn. It was close…, too close.
My eyes went wide, and everything turned white and soundless for a heartbeat.
Riya's pov The air around the entrance corridor went from tense to brittle and the hum of hidden machinery seemed to grow louder.“Are you…” Mateo’s voice came out low, without hiding the edge beneath, and his tired but sharply focused eyes slid past me and locked onto Nova. “…holding her against her will?”Nova didn’t flinch. If anything, a spark of challenge lit in her cool gaze, and she leaned forward, just in a fraction. “And what if I am?”I felt my stomach drop. Oh, please, Nova, I screamed internally, clenching my teeth so hard my jaw ached. Don’t make things more difficult than they already are.I saw Mateo’s chest rise and fall with a deep, steadying breath as he returned his gaze towards me, before shifting his weight, preparing to step forward—into the space, forcing me to act on pure instinct.“Wait.” I shot my arm out, facing my palm flat toward him. He stopped, widening his eyes slightly in surprise and the sight of my own hand, trembling just a little, suspended in th
Riya's Pov“Do I let him in?”Nova’s flat voice cut through the dizzying static in my head, dragging me back from a whirlpool of memories.“Huh? Wha…?” I blinked twice, parting my lips, but no sound came out all because the grainy monitor image of him, squinting in the floodlights, had been seared onto the back of my eyelids. She stood upright, leaned the heavy sniper rifle gently against the iron-plated wall with a soft clink of metal on metal, then she turned to face me fully, crossing her arms. “Well? Do I let him in?”My eyes darted from her face to the monitor and back again while a nervous energy fizzed under my skin. “Well… my eyes darted side to side… Why are you asking me?”“Duh.” She placed a hand on her hip, tilting her head, arching a single, perfectly shaped eyebrow. “Didn’t you just call him ‘Mateo’?”Heat rushed to my cheeks. “Oh.” My voice lowered to a murmur. “You heard that?”“So?” She took a step closer, and the red strobe light flashed across her features. “Make up
Riya's pov “No.” She tapped a monitor displaying a wireframe map of the surrounding area, and a single, blinking red dot pulsed at the edge of the property line. “Anyone who enters the perimeter of this space that isn’t holding the access card, or isn’t with someone who holds it, is tagged as an intruder. The system doesn’t make mistakes.” She finally turned to look at me, and the hard certainty in her eyes extinguished my last bit of hope. “And besides… It’s still too early for any of them to return. Way too early.”Now the sterile, safe space suddenly felt like a glass box in a shooting gallery. “So…” I blinked, darting my eyes to the dark, reinforced windows, then back to her as I clutched my hands tightly against my chest. “So… what do we do?”“We have to lock the whole place down.” She was already typing, executing commands, and before long, a series of heavy, mechanical clunks echoed through the building as external blast doors engaged.“But we don’t know who they are yet,” I
Riya's PovWith everyone gone, the massive living space felt hollow followed by an industrial kind of silence, broken only by the low hum of server racks and the frantic, rhythmic click-clack of a keyboard. The air smelled of ozone, stale coffee, and the faint, sweet scent of Nova’s perfume—a stark contrast to the cold concrete and exposed ductwork as I hovered in the doorway, feeling out of place. Across the room, Nova's silhouette sat against the glow of multiple monitors, facing her back to me, with this posture of a perfect curve of concentration.“Where’s Momma?” Nova's voice sounded too small, swallowed by the space without turning, and her fingers never stopped dancing across the keyboard, forming the sound of a staccato ballet on mechanical switches.“Oh… um… She left with the others.” I took a tentative step inside, squeaking my sneakers softly on the polished concrete as I drifted closer, drawn to the constellation of screens. On the central monitor, a stream of cryptic s
Mateo's Pov "What... are you trying to say?" I lowered my voicemail gently locking the car door, as the clunk echoed in the sterile quiet of the underground garage. And supporting the limping Silas over my shoulders, we began the slow, painful walk towards the private elevator. "I'm saying that I want to help you," Lance's smooth voice continued, "and in return, you will need to help me.""That's not the issue," I forced my mind to work through the fog of pain and adrenaline, then eased Silas to lean against the elevator wall as I pressed the button for the 19th floor. The doors slid shut with a whisper, sealing us in a mirrored, brightly lit box before I leaned my tired back against the cool metal wall, feeling the subtle gravitational tug as we began to ascend. I then rolled my eyes toward the harsh fluorescent lights on the ceiling. "Aren't you forgetting something... Sir Lance?"There was a deliberate pause on the other end. "What?" his tone remained pleasant, but a thread of
Riya's pov "Oh, don't fret… This is normal around here." Serena stepped back beside me and gave my shoulder a reassuring tap, giving me a slight nod. "You'll get used to it."I slowly lowered my hands from my mouth, while my eyes went wide as Momma helped the groaning girl to her feet. I then slid my gaze towards Serena, whispering out in a horrified voice to a hushed whisper. "What exactly about this is normal? That was... that's just domestic violence!"Serena, Momma, and the feisty girl all burst into laughter, making the sound echo in the stark concrete hallway."Sweetheart," Momma wiped a tear of mirth from her eye as she walked towards me, turning her expression serious. "If you wanna live towards revenge, you need to have the skills to accomplish it." She stopped in front of me, placing her hands on her hips. "Or how exactly did you plan on getting back at the old man? Do you wanna offer him hugs or something? Ask him nicely to stop?"I folded my arms defensively and slid my
