Fruits time

"Scarlett's point of view,"

I have agreed to marry a man who I hardly even know, giving in to my compulsions. I've either read about Samuel Oscar in business magazines or heard about him on television news programs. Clara never provided me with any precise details regarding Samuel.

I feel as though my life is a nightmare in which I keep tumbling down a deep well yet cannot shout because I can't raise my voice high enough. I returned to the hospital and went to my mother's room. However, my mother was not in that room; instead, a different patient was lying on that bed.

Where did my mother suddenly vanish?

Have the staff members at the hospital discharged my mother?

But after agreeing to all of Samuel's demands, why has Samuel interfered with my mother's medical care?

"We have moved your mom to the VIP room, Miss Neve."

"What?" My mother's nurse told me as I was on my way to ask about my mother at the hospital reception.

They moved my mother to a VIP room, but why?

"Even the hospital's past-due bills haven't been deposited yet."

"You shouldn't be concerned at all. Mr. Oscar has already deposited the cost of your mother's medical care."

"What?" That nurse's statements were so unbelievable to me.

I moved toward the VIP area. In actuality, my mother was soundly dozing off on the bed that was in the center of a huge, spacious room.

The nurse told me that Mr. Oscar was paying her to care for my mother permanently.

Is Samuel genuinely so kind? The character of Samuel Oscar continues to baffle me.

I waited for my mother to awaken from her slumber while seated on the stool next to her bed.

"Why are you upset, Scarlet?" I'm sure my mom noticed the worry lines appearing on my face. I don't want to put my mother through any more stress.

"I'm alright, Mom; there's nothing to worry about." I said, averting my gaze from her.

"Don't mislead me, Scarlett."

How did my mother find out that I was deceiving her about something? Every time I have a mental battle, my silly face makes it obvious to everyone. However, I know I can no longer keep this secret from my mother. I had to tell my mom about such a significant life decision because I'm getting married to Samuel Oscar tomorrow.

"I'm pregnant, mom." I answered in a shaky voice while fidgeting with my fingers.

"And?"

After hearing such an important thing, why didn't Mom react?

"Tomorrow at 11 a.m., I will marry my child's father." I was moving my saliva up and down to utter the words.

"Hmm. Scarlett, you made the right decision." Mom said while encircling my hand in hers.

"What?

Are you not at all upset with my choice?" I had anticipated that my mother would be really upset upon learning about this, so her actions very took aback me.

"No, my child, I am not upset with you.

I understand the feelings of love building within you because I am a mother as well."

Oh, so that's why mom believes I'm marrying Samuel: for the sake of the baby. Thankfully, my mother has no idea that I am considering using my marriage as a means to fund her medical care.

"Samuel is a very kind man, and I know that he will make you happy."

"What?

Who told you about Samuel?" It took aback me when my mother casually mentioned Samuel's name.

"Samuel visited me this morning." Mom showed the flower bouquet by the bedside.

Oh no, has he told Mom about what happened that night between us?

"What did he say to you, mother?" I asked in a frightened tone.

"Why do you feel so uneasy?

He told me that you two adore each other and want to marry."

"Has he told you everything?" I couldn't believe my mother's statements.

"Is there something I shouldn't know about you two?" Mom regarded me with suspicion.

Oh no, Stupid Scarlett, what are you doing? You will tell mom everything if you continue to talk to her in this manner.

I instantly responded, "No, Mom, it's not like that," masking my apprehension with a smile.

"Scarlett, but why did you withhold something so important for me?" Mother's attitude abruptly turned grave.

Oh no, what was anticipated occurred. I now have to be honest with my mom. My mother has a heart condition, and I worry that if she finds out the truth about my relationship with Samuel, her condition may worsen.

"Why did you wait so long to inform me about Samuel? I did not anticipate this from you."

Thank God my mother is completely certain of our relationship.

"Mom, I simply needed to wait for the appropriate time." I exhaled in relief.

"It's time to eat your fruits, Miss Neve."

"What?" A nurse I had never seen before walked up to the door of the room, paused, and then said Mom is not yet permitted to consume fruits.

"You could have entered the wrong room, sister." With confused eyes, I regarded her.

"No, Miss Neve, I'm at the proper place."

"However, Mom can't eat any fruits."

"These fruits are for you, Miss Neve, not your mother."

"What? For me? But I didn't request anyone to bring fruits, and I don't have a craving for them."

"Mr. Oscar has instructed me to take extra care of your diet, so, unfortunately, Miss Neve, you will have to eat fruits."

"Did Samuel send you here?" It astonished me how Samuel could shift so drastically suddenly.

Is he ashamed of his error, or is everything he's doing just for show?

"You are quite fortunate, Scarlett, to have Samuel as a loving life partner."

Life partner?

Should I tell my mother that my marriage is simply a one-year commitment?

No, I can not take such action. The nurse served me a plate of fruit. I already knew Samuel cared a lot about his child based on his actions.

Perhaps I have an inaccurate impression of Samuel, and he is not as horrible as I give him credit for being. Maybe having a child together will strengthen our bond.

Clara is no longer a part of Samuel's life, so it is entirely OK for me to consider beginning a new life with him.

I have to give our marriage a try for the sake of my unborn child. I checked the time to halt my thoughts and went to sleep. A new day will bring about a major change in my life.
